A Guide to Ordering Custom Programmed Digital Power System Management Devices
Digital power system management is being adopted in the marketplace because of its ability to provide accurate information about the power system and to autonomously control and supervise dozens of voltage rails with ease. Having digital control over analog power supplies with a simple PC connection is valuable during the development stage where designers need to get their systems up and running quickly. Since there can be as any many as 50 point-of-load (POL) voltage rails, users need to be able to easily adjust supply voltages, sequence supplies up/down, set operating voltage limits, and read parameters such as voltage, current and temperature as well as access detailed fault logging via a digital interface.
In order to support this technology, custom programmed parts are required, depending on system needs. These parts have an EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) incorporated into the device that stores the power system configuration. The EEPROM needs to be programmed and first articles are required for verification prior to going into full production.
