The ADXL345 is a small, thin, low power, 3-axis accelerometer with high resolution (13-bit) measurement at up to ±16g. Digital output data is formatted as 16-bit twos complement and is accessible through either a SPI (3- or 4-wire) or I2C digital interface.

The ADXL345 is well suited for mobile device applications. It measures the static acceleration of gravity in tilt-sensing applications, as well as dynamic acceleration resulting from motion or shock. Its high resolution (4 mg/LSB) enables measurement of inclination changes less than 1.0°.

Several special sensing functions are provided. Activity and inactivity sensing detect the presence or lack of motion and if the acceleration on any axis exceeds a user-set level. Tap sensing detects single and double taps. Free-fall sensing detects if the device is falling. These functions can be mapped to one of two interrupt output pins. An integrated, patent pending 32-level first in, first out (FIFO) buffer can be used to store data to minimize host processor intervention.

Low power modes enable intelligent motion-based power management with threshold sensing and active acceleration measurement at extremely low power dissipation.

The ADXL345 is supplied in a small, thin, 3 mm × 5 mm × 1 mm, 14-lead, plastic package.

Product Details

The ADXL345 Development Board is an easy-to-use tool designed to shorten application development time by providing a ready-to-use platform for data collection and firmware development.

The board is pre-configured as a datalogger that can be used to gather data for refining algorithms, tuning thresholds, and generally familiarizing oneself with accelerometer data. Powered by two AAA batteries, the board is completely untethered and integrates seamlessly into portable applications. Logged data is stored on a MicroSD memory card, providing essentially unlimited memory capacity and operating system versatility. Data is stored in a text (.txt) file, so no software installation is required to operate the board or read data. A 2GB MicroSD card and a USB MicroSD card reader are provided with the board.

Additionally, the board is fully programmable, providing a hardware platform on which firmware can be tested in parallel with development of application hardware. Communications and processing are performed by an ARM7-based ADuC7024 micro-controller, and firmware is written in C. A programming cable is provided with the board, and a development environment and header files are supplied on this page. Finally, the platform can be duplicated in the final application, having already been tested with the application firmware. Schematics and layout can be found under the Supporting Documentation tab and can be used freely in your application.

Note that this board is not configured to display real-time data. For real-time evaluation of the ADXL345, please refer to the Inertial Sensor Evaluation Board. For a simple ADXL345 Breakout Board, refer to the EVAL-ADXL345Z.

The EVAL-ADXL345Z is a simple breakout board that enables easy connection of an ADXL345 into an existing system. The ADXL345 is a digital-output, 3-axis accelerometer whose low power consumption and built-in features make it ideal for use in a wide variety of applications. Due to its small size, the EVAL-ADXL345Z has minimal effect on performance of the system and of the accelerometer, and thus it is ideal for evaluation of the ADXL345 in an existing system. Note that the ADXL345 must be communicated with digitally via SPI or I2C. No processor is included with the EVAL-ADXL345Z; firmware must be supplied externally by the user. For evaluation boards that include a processor, please see the EVAL-ADXL345Z-M and the ADXL345Z-DB.

EVAL-MST-ISEB Circuit Diagram

Product Details

The iMEMS® Real Time Eval System is an easy-to-use evaluation tool targeting bench or desktop characterization of Analog Devices, Inc., inertial sensor products. The system consists of the inertial sensor evaluation board (ISEB), or main board, and a satellite board for any Analog Devices inertial sensor product. The ISEB connects directly to a PC via an USB cable, with the USB connection providing both communications and power to the board. The ISEB is connected to the satellite board through a ribbon cable. This cable allows the satellite to be easily manipulated for testing or separately placed into an environmental chamber for temperature or humidity testing. Separating the boards mitigates corruption of data due to the temperature and humidity effects of other components.

The ISEB is an universal main board and is intended to be used with various satellites of Analog Devices inertial sensors, including analog and digital accelerometers, as well as gyroscopes. The different products are evaluated by means of separate GUIs that are customized for performance and characterization measurements relevant to the inertial sensor being evaluated.


The EVAL-ADxZ-M system contains the ISEB and the EVAL-ADxZ-S satellite. Also included is an USB A to Mini-B cable to connect the ISEB to a PC and an 18-inch, 20-pin ribbon cable to connect the ISEB to the satellite.

This product is very good and it has wide range of measurement options with high resolution which was more then perfect for my applications. Additionally the I2C interface made it easy to communicate to the device for very fast and accurate prototyping.

adxl345
very nice options on this chip..freefall tap etc which is why I wanted to try it out but it was Extremely precise, too much precision for my project. I had a very hard time soldering this chip by hand in my small prototype shop, Otherwise this would be an awesome ic for other precision uses.

sole for diabetic patients
The ADXL345 helps to save energy in sole for diabetic patients because sole is only working when the patient is moving.

compass
Tried to use it as a compass, but the device is hard to calibrate. 0 to 90 degrees is fine. After that more or less abritrary. 'North' is pretty reliable.

ADXL345
Adxl345 is a great mems sensors for thouse who are starting with gravity sensing. It's got lot of functions like a tap detection free fall which helps to perform uC algorythm faster, and do not overload uC to sense events that adxl345 can sense and let uC know about it. One minus - not all functions are working and it's hard to figure out why

This device is really very awesome, easy to use and very acurate it has many features too much for my usage. I burn one piece because I wrongly change the supply to 5 volts. but the other piece is working like a charma thanks for you support again.

Price/performance/features
All of the analog's mems sensors which I have used so far were great. They have excellent performance and superb documentation comparing to others, and as a result i.e you do not waste time on traversing through net searching for solutions and magic tricks that have to be performed before sensor starts to work.

Good features
I haven't tried all the features yet. First, I want to test the adc resolution, then, the bandwidth, but at first glance seems to be a good transducer, besides it has an accessible price
