Product Details

The EVAL-AD4080-FMCZ is designed to demonstrate the performance of the AD4080/AD4081/AD4084 analog‐to‐digital converter (ADC) and provide access to a limited set of features from the chip in the ACE Software environment. The EVAL-AD4080-FMCZ evaluation kit supports the following AD4080/AD4081/AD4084 features:

  • Low voltage digital signaling (LVDS) data output interface.
  • ADC configuration via serial peripheral interface (SPI).
  • Internal or external generation of 1.1 V regulated supply rails.
  • Sampling rate capability between 1.25 MSPS and up to 40 MSPS, depending on the specific ADC.

The EVAL-AD4080-FMCZ evaluation board was designed for use with the Digilent ZedBoard via the field programmable gate array (FPGA) mezzanine card (FMC) connector. The ZedBoard uses a Xilinx Zynq7000 system on chip (SoC) that runs Analog Devices, Inc., Kuiper Linux and LIBIIO included on the SD card supplied in the evaluation board kit to facilitate communication with the EVALAD4080-FMCZ, enabling ADC configuration and data capture. The ZedBoard also provides the communication link to the host PC and the ACE Software plug-in.

The AD4080/AD4081/AD4084 that is physically mounted on the board can be evaluated with any sampling frequency range from 1.25MHz to 40MHz. However, performance of the AD4081 and AD4084 can also be evaluated using this board by selecting the sampling frequency to 20MHz. Note, results for AD4081 and AD4084 should only be taken as indications of the SNR rather than the actual measurement, nevertheless, measured SNR for the AD4081 wont be worse than expected one. This evaluation board - EVAL-AD4080-FMCZ will only serve as a temporary evaluation solution for the AD4084. For proper evaluation of the aD4084 there will be a designated evaluation board in near future.

The EVAL-AD4080ARDZ evaluation board enables quick and easy evaluation of the performance and features of the AD4080/AD4081/AD4084. The EVAL-AD4080ARDZ is designed to demonstrate the performance of the AD4080/AD4081/AD4084 features in the ACE software environment. The EVAL-AD4080ARDZ evaluation kit supports the following AD4080/AD4081/AD4084 features:

  • Serial peripheral interface (SPI) complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) data output interface (read from first-in first out (FIFO))
  • Analog-to-digital converter (ADC) configuration via SPI
  • Internal or external generation of 1.1V regulated supply rails (external by default)
  • Sampling rate capability 40/20/10MSPS (software selectable in ACE)

The EVAL-AD4080ARDZ evaluation board is designed for use with the system demonstration platform (SDP-K1) board to facilitate communication with the AD4080/AD4081/AD4084, enabling ADC configuration and data capture. The SDP-K1 controller board also provides the communication link to the host PC and the ACE software plugin. The primary controller board for the EVAL-AD4080ARDZ evaluation board is the SDP-K1. The EVAL-AD4080ARDZ evaluation board conforms to the Arduino Uno Shield mechanical and electrical standards to interface with the SDP-K1.

The EVAL-AD4080ARDZ evaluation solution includes the AD4080/AD4081/AD4084 industrial input and output (IIO) firmware application drivers for device configuration and ADC data capture. It also includes the AD4080/AD4081/AD4084 ACE plugin graphical interfaces (GUIs) for performance evaluations.
