The ADP2386 is a synchronous step-down, dc-to-dc regulator with an integrated 44 mΩ, high-side power MOSFET and an 11 mΩ, synchronous rectifier MOSFET to provide a high efficiency solution in a compact 4 mm × 4 mm LFCSP package. This device uses a peak current mode, constant frequency pulse-width modulation (PWM) control scheme for excellent stability and transient response. The switching frequency of the ADP2386 can be programmed between 200 kHz to 1.4 MHz. To minimize system noise, the synchronization function allows the switching frequency to be synchronized to an external clock.

The ADP2386 requires minimal external components and operates from an input voltage of 4.5 V to 20 V. The output voltage can be adjusted from 0.6 V to 90% of the input voltage and delivers up to 6 A of continuous current. Each IC draws less than 110 μA current from the input source when it is disabled.

This regulator targets high performance applications that require high efficiency and design flexibility. External compensation and an adjustable soft start function provide design flexibility. The power-good output and precision enable input provide simple and reliable power sequencing.

Other key features include undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), short-circuit protection (SCP) and thermal shutdown (TSD).

The ADP2386 operates over the −40°C to +125°C junction temperature range and is available in a 24-lead, 4 mm × 4 mm LFCSP package.

EVAL-ADP2384/ADP-2386

ADP2384/ADP2386 Evaluation Board

Product Details

The ADP2384/ADP2386 evaluation board is a complete, 4 A/6 A, 20 V, step-down regulator solution that allows users to evaluate the performance of the ADP2384/ADP2386 with a near ideal printed circuit board (PCB) layout.

The switching frequency can be programmed between 200 kHz and 1.4 MHz, or it can be synchronized to an external clock with a 180° phase shift, which provides the possibility for a stackable multiphase power solution.

The output of the ADP2384/ADP2386 evaluation board is preset to 3.3 V and the switching frequency is set to 600 kHz. Different output voltage settings can be achieved by changing appropriate passive components. The ambient temperature operating range is −40°C to +85°C.

Full details on the ADP2384 and ADP2386 regulators are provided in the ADP2384 and ADP2386 data sheets, available from Analog Devices, Inc., which should be consulted in conjunction with this user guide.

Product Details

The AD-SYNCHRONA14-EBZ is an ideal self-contained device to use in evaluation and prototyping of applications that need a highly accurate frequency and phase-controlled source clock. It is designed around the Analog Devices AD9545 and HMC7044 and greatly simplifies clock distribution and multi-channel synchronization in complex systems. It is intended to be used by trained professionals in a laboratory environment, and not intended as an end product for commercial use. It can be taken as a complete reference design and customised as required for any end customer applications. Full design details are made available free of charge.

The AD-SYNCHRONA14-EBZ comes in a 1U mechanical form factor. Using popular industry connector SMA and TwinAX interfaces most labs will already have the needed cables.

With its internal OCXO it can operate in standalone mode or be fed from a choice of external sources, such as 3 separate high speed differential clock inputs, a 10MHz reference and 1PPS. This flexibility combined with the capability to select either of the internal VCXO options of 100MHz or 122.88MHz, gives almost unlimited choice for the frequency of interest and accuracy needed for a wide variety of application areas.
