The LTC4296-1 is an IEEE 802.3cg-compliant, five port, single-pair power over Ethernet (SPoE), power sourcing equipment (PSE) controller. SPoE simplifies system design and installation with standardized power and Ethernet data over a single-pair cable. The LTC4296-1 is designed for interoperability with 802.3cg powered devices (PDs) in 24 V or 54 V systems. The LTC4296-1 delivers power using external, low drain-to-source on resistance (RDS(ON)), N-channel metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs), which minimize voltage drop and ensure application ruggedness.

High-side circuit breakers with foldback, analog current limit (ACL) provide controlled inrush and short-circuit protection. An optional low-side circuit breaker protects the negative output against backfeed faults, and ground faults in nonisolated applications. PD classification via the serial communication classification protocol (SCCP) and maintain full voltage signature (MFVS) ensure that the full operating voltage is only applied to the cable when a PD is present. The SWx pins disconnect port power snubbers during detection and classification. PD initiated sleep and wake-up are supported. The WAKEUP pin supports wake-up forwarding. Telemetry, status, and software control features are accessed via a serial peripheral interface (SPI) bus interface with packet error code (PEC) protection.

The LTC4296-1 provides a versatile SPoE, PSE solution for 10BASE-T1L controllers and switches and can easily be integrated with the Analog Devices, Inc., 10BASE-T1L transceiver portfolio, such as the ADIN1100 (physical layer, PHY), ADIN1110 (MACPHY), and ADIN2111 (2-port switch).

The DEMO-ADIN1100D2Z is a media converter board that provides connection between a standard 10BASE-T RJ45 Ethernet port and a 10BASE-T1L device.

The DEMO-ADIN1100D2Z includes a power sourcing equipment (PSE) controller and it can power the connected 10BASE-T1L or advanced physical layer (APL) device. The PSE controller is configurable for power over data line (PoDL)/single pair power over Ethernet (SPoE) power Class 10, Class 11, Class 12, Class 13, Class 14, and Class 15, and APL power Class A, Class C, and Class 3.

The board requires an external DC power supply with output voltage and maximum output current relevant to the selected power class. For a subset of power classes (Class 10, APL A, and APL C), the board can also be powered from a USB host.

The board requires a minor modification and external power coupling inductors when used for the highest power Class 15 and APL 3.

The DEMO-ADIN1100D2Z can be used as an autonomous device, configurable by a set of switches and jumpers, indicating its status on LEDs.

The DEMO-ADIN1100D2Z can also be connected via USB to a host PC. The 10BASE-T1L link status, power status, and diagnostics are then accessible using a simple set of text commands and messages exchanged over the USB COM port interface using a serial terminal software on a PC.

The EVAL-10BT1L-MCS is a 10BASE-TX, traditional 4-pair Ethernet, to 10BASE-T1L single-pair power over Ethernet (SPoE) media converter shield (MCS) that is compatible with SPoE power sourcing equipment (PSE) and powered device (PD) evaluation motherboards.

The EVAL-10BT1L-MCS-AZ shield power coupling network is suited for Class 10 through Class 14 power levels. The EVAL-10BT1LMCS- BZ shield power coupling network is suited for the higher power levels of Class 15 while compatible with Class 10 through Class 14. In the context of a PSE, the power coupling network allows for power to be coupled on the single pair Ethernet lines. Regarding the PD, the power coupling network extracts power from the combined power and data line.

The shield includes the ADIN1100, 10BASE-T1L PHY, and the ADIN1200, 10BASE-TX PHY, which provide the Ethernet data media conversion in the system. The on-board LT8301, isolated flyback converter, provides an isolated 3.3V power source to the PHYs.
