Thanks to USB-C and USB power delivery, compact electronic devices can now be fed by a small, single, bidirectional cable that delivers data, video, and power. Although USB Type-C and USB power delivery are making electronic devices easier to manage for end users, complying with the protocol can involve multiple hardware components, complex software, as well as custom firmware development. Our extensive portfolio of ICs for USB-C and USB power delivery designs provides high levels of integration and flexibility that engineers need to create compact, power-efficient electronics compatible with bidirectional data and power delivery requirements. Our portfolio includes chargers, converters, controllers, as well as power path and protection devices.

USB isolators protect the communication interface between the host, such as a PC, and its peripheral. Utilizing iCoupler® digital isolation technology, Analog Devices offers USB 2.0 compliant SOIC components with data rates up to 12 Mbps that provide EMC protection and safety isolation, reduce design size and time, and lower system cost. Galvanically isolated USB μModule® (micromodule) transceivers integrate the USB interface with an isolated dc-to-dc converter for up to 2.5 W of isolated power and provide ±15 kV ESD. Whether for host, hub, bus splitter, or peripheral device, these transparent USB digital isolators are easy to use—they just work—all while meeting the demanding standards required for medical and industrial applications.

USB On-The-Go (OTG) allows two USB devices to talk to each other without requiring the services of a personal computer (PC). USB to USB OTG converters are used in conjunction with ASICs or microprocessor controlled ASSPs that already support USB, but need to add VBUS control and the extra signaling required to become USB OTG compliant.
