The MAX77978 is a highly integrated and robust stand-alone USB Type-C and power delivery (PD) controller capable of cable-plug and orientation detection on the Type-C connector.
The MAX77978 provides a fully PD3.2 V1.0-compliant solution that supports the extended power range (EPR) protocol.
The MAX777978 includes a RISC-V CPU, a USB-C PD controller, 16kBytes of MTP, and analog and digital peripherals. The device operates across the full power budget specified in the EPR (up to 48V VBUS) and detects VBUS voltages.
The IC also has a D+/D- USB switch integrated, supports USB2.0, eUSB, and UART, and includes VCONN switches for USB-C PD.
The MAX77978 has also integrated BC1.2 charging detection for backward compatibility with legacy USB sources. SBUx Multiplexer is equipped to support AUXP and AUXN for Type-C alternate mode.
It also has an I2C interface that the system can use to read/write and configure internal registers. An integrated I2C controller engine can read and write to other devices in the system, allowing its firmware to configure related devices without the main processor's assistance.
The IC has five configurable GPIOs that can be used for detection, as interrupts, as a SID set, and as the enable/disable pin for external devices, or as ADC inputs. The IC is available in a 3.4mm X 3.4mm, 0.5mm pitch, WLP package.
