The MAX1300/MAX1301 multirange, low-power, 16-bit, successive-approximation, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) operate from a single +5V supply and achieve throughput rates up to 115ksps. A separate digital supply allows digital interfacing with 2.7V to 5.25V systems using the SPI-/QSPI-/MICROWIRE®-compatible serial interface. Partial power-down mode reduces the supply current to 1.3mA (typ). Full power-down mode reduces the power-supply current to 1µA (typ).

The MAX1300 provides eight (single-ended) or four (true differential) analog input channels. The MAX1301 provides four (single-ended) or two (true differential) analog input channels. Each analog input channel is independently software programmable for seven single-ended input ranges [0 to (3 × VREF)/2, (-3 × VREF)/2 to 0, 0 to 3 × VREF, -3 × VREF to 0, (±3 × VREF)/4, (±3 × VREF)/2, ±3 × VREF] and three differential input ranges [(±3 × VREF)/2, ±3 × VREF, ±6 × VREF].

An on-chip +4.096V reference offers a small convenient ADC solution. The MAX1300/MAX1301 also accept an external reference voltage between 3.800V and 4.136V.

The MAX1300 is available in a 24-pin TSSOP package and the MAX1301 is available in a 20-pin TSSOP package. Each device is specified for operation from -40°C to +85°C.

Product Detail

The MAX1300A evaluation kit (EV kit) is a fully assembled and tested PCB that evaluates the MAX1300A family of 16-bit ADCs. The EV kit uses Windows XP®-, Windows Vista®-, and Windows® 7-compatible software to provide a simple graphical user interface (GUI) to simplify evaluation of the IC's features. The EV kit comes with the MAX1300AEUG+ installed.

The EV kit has an on-board Xilinx FPGA for evaluating the IC. The EV kit GUI allows different sample sizes, adjustable sampling rates, internal or external reference options, and graphing software that includes the FFT of the sampled signals. In the "Clock Mode" field, please select "Internal Clock" for correct EV kit operation.

Product Detail

The MAXSANTAFEEVSYS kit allows users to quickly demonstrate and evaluate the functionality of the MAXREFDES5 4-channel 16-bit, isolated analog front end (AFE) reference design without the need for a bench power supply, signal generator equipment, or Xilinx development kit. The reference design board connects to a PC through an included USB-to-SPI adapter that provides both power and data communication to the board. To test the AFE reference design, a USB-powered signal generator board utilizing one of Maxim’s digital-to-analog converters (DAC) is also included. A Windows®-based graphical user interface (GUI) communicates with the boards for generating various analog signal test patterns and simplified access to AFE measurement data.

The MAXREFDES5 reference design is a 4-channel analog front end (AFE) that accepts -10V to +10V, 0V to 10V, and 4–20mA current loop signals. The design integrates a 16-bit ADC with multirange input programmability (MAX1301) plus low-noise, high-impedance analog buffers (MAX9632) on two of the input channels and an ultra-high precision 4.096V voltage reference (MAX6126) to achieve maximum performance from the 16-bit system. A 600VRMS digital isolator (MAX14850) and 3W transformer driver (MAX256) provide the necessary isolated data and power connections to the host system. LDO regulators (MAX1659) provide regulated +12V, -12V, and 5V power rails to the analog front end.
