The LTC3888/LTC3888-1/LTC3888-2 is a PMBus-compliant dual loop DC/DC synchronous step-down switching regulator controller with eight expandable phases supporting a wide range of main/subordinate configurations. The controller uses constant frequency current mode architecture to provide excellent transient response and output regulation. Each PWM main is capable of producing output voltages from 0.3 V to 3.45 V with multiple phase configurations using DrMOS devices that provide an output current monitor.

PMBus configuration and monitoring is supported by LTpowerPlay software. Programmable loop compensation and built-in load step emulation facilitate setting bandwidth based on input voltage and output load capacitance. PMBus commands allow read back of input voltage, output voltage and current, and operating status. Operating parameters can be set via PMBus command or stored in internal EEPROM for use at power up. Switching frequency, phase configuration, output voltage (LTC3888/LTC3888-2), output current limit (LTC3888-1) and device address can also be set using external programming resistors.

Product Details

Demonstration circuit DC2888A-A/DC2888A-B is an 8-phase single- output, high efficiency, high density, synchronous buck converter with 7 V to 14 V input range. The output can supply up to 400 A maximum load current. The demo board showcases one LTC3888/LTC3888-1 working with eight LTC7051. The LTC3888/ LTC3888-1 is a PMBus-compliant dual loop 8-phase step-down DC/DC controller with digital power system management. LTC7051 is an integrated smart power stage with current sense and temperature monitor. Refer to the LTC3888/LTC3888-1 and LTC7051 data sheets for detailed information.

DC2888A-A/DC2888A-B powers up to default settings and produces power based on configuration resistors without the need for any serial bus communication. This allows easy evaluation of the DC/DC converter. To fully explore the extensive power system management features of the part, download the GUI software LTpowerPlay ™ on your PC and use Analog Devices' I2C/SMBus/PMBus dongle DC1613A to connect to the board. LTpowerPlay allows to reconfigure the part on the fly and store the configuration in electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM), and view the telemetry of voltage, current, temperature, and fault status.

Product Details

Demonstration circuit 2652A-A is an 8-phase dual-output, high efficiency, high density, synchronous buck converter with 7V to 14V input range. Each output can supply up to 120A maximum load current with 1V output. The demo board showcases the LTC3888, which is a PMBus-compliant dual loop 8-phase step-down DC/DC controller with digital power system management. The LTC3888 is designed to work with DrMOS devices that provide an output current sense and temperature monitor. Please refer to LTC3888’s data sheet for more detailed information.

DC2652A-A powers up to default settings and produces power based on configuration resistors (or with the setting in its non-volatile memory) without the need for any serial bus communication. This allows easy evaluation of the DC/DC converter. To fully explore the extensive power system management features of the part, download the GUI software LTpowerPlay onto your PC and use ADI’s I2C/SMBus/PMBus dongle DC1613A to connect to the board. LTpowerPlay allows the user to reconfigure the part on the fly and store the configuration in EEPROM, view telemetry of voltage, current, temperature and fault status.
