The ADuM360N/ADuM361N/ADuM362N/ADuM363N are 6-channel digital isolators based on Analog Devices, Inc., iCoupler® technology. Combining high speed, complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) and back-to-back monolithic air core transformer technology, these isolation components provide outstanding performance characteristics and meet CISPR 32/EN 55032 Class B limits at 5 Mbps. The maximum propagation delay is 10 ns with a pulse-width distortion of less than 3 ns at 5 V operation. Channel matching is tight at 3.0 ns maximum.

The ADuM360N/ADuM361N/ADuM362N/ADuM363N data channels are independent and are available in a variety of configurations with a withstand voltage rating of 3 kV rms (see Figure 28 in Data Sheet). The devices operate with the supply voltage on either side ranging from 2.25 V to 5.5 V, which provides compatibility with lower voltage systems as well as enabling voltage translation functionality across the isolation barrier.

Two different fail-safe options are available, by which the outputs transition to a predetermined state when the input power supply is not applied.

Applications

  • Serial-peripheral interface (SPI) data converter isolation
  • RS-485 and controller area network with flexible data rate (CAN FD) industrial field bus isolation
  • PWM controller signal isolation
  • General-purpose multichannel isolation

Evaluation Kits

eval board
EVAL-ADuM36xN

Evaluating the 3.0 kV rms ADuM362N 6-Channel Digital Isolator

Features and Benefits

  • Simplified evaluation of the ADuM36xN digital isolator family
  • Supports evaluation of other 6-channel iCoupler® digital isolators in 16-lead QSOP package
  • Compact, easy configuration, optimized for rapid evaluation on breadboards/prototype boards
  • Test points can be fitted to measure all signals

Product Details

The EVAL-ADuM36xNEBZ evaluation board supports simplified, efficient evaluation of the 3.0 kV rms ADuM36xN family of iCoupler digital isolators. The EVAL-ADuM36xNEBZ evaluation board also grants the ability to examine multiple other 16-lead QSOP iCoupler digital isolators by the unpopulated U1, U3, and U4, which provide the user with multiple JEDEC standard 16-Lead QSOP footprints and routing appropriate for the evaluation of supported devices.

The EVAL-ADuM36xNEBZ evaluation board features V shaped grooves between each component (U1 to U4) that allow the user to split the PCB into sections and examine a specific device of their choice on a breadboard or similar prototyping board for ease of use.

Power supply and input/output pins can be connected either directly to the pin header connectors or onto a prototyping board.

The EVAL-ADuM36xNEBZ evaluation board follows printed circuit board (PCB) design practices, including a ground plane on each side of the isolation barrier. No other electromagnetic interference (EMI) or noise mitigation design features are included on this board.

Full specifications for the device under test (DUT) are available in the ADuM360N/ADuM362N/ADuM363N data sheet available from Analog Devices, Inc., and must be consulted with this user guide when using the EVAL-ADuM36xNEBZ evaluation board.

EVAL-5CH6CHEBZ

Evaluation Board for Five and Six Channel Standard Data Isolators in 16 lead SOIC

Features and Benefits

  • Access to 6 data channels
  • Multiple connection options
  • Support for active probes
  • Provisions for cable terminations
  • Support for printed circuit board (PCB) edge mounted coaxial connectors
  • Easy configuration

Product Details

The EVAL-5CH6CHSOICEBZ supports 5-channel and 6-channel iCoupler® standard data isolators in a 16-lead SOIC package. The evaluation board provides a JEDEC standard, 16-lead SOIC_N and SOIC_W pad layout. This layout supports signal distribution, loopback, and loads referenced to the VDDx or GNDx planes, as well as optimal bypass capacitance. Signal sources can be conducted to the evaluation board through header pins or through edge mounted SMA connectors (SMA connectors must be ordered separately). Screw terminal blocks on the evaluation board provide power connections.

The evaluation board includes 0.2 inch header positions for compatibility with active probes (probe header pins must be ordered separately).

The evaluation board follows best PCB design practices for 4-layer boards, including a full power plane and ground plane on each side of the isolation barrier. No other electromagnetic interference (EMI) or noise mitigation design features are included on the evaluation board. In cases of high speed operation, or when ultralow emissions are required, refer to the AN-1109 Application Note for additional evaluation board layout techniques.
