The AD8313 is an RF logarithmic detector and controller, with response extending from 0.1 to 2.5 GHz. The device is capable of accurately converting a modulated RF signal at its differential input to an equivalent decibel-scaled value at its dc output. The dynamic range is up to 70 dB with ±3 dB accuracy, or 62 dB to ±1 dB. The AD8313 is useful for RF transmitter and receiver power measurement and control applications. It is offered in a small eight-pin micro-SO package. Its application requires only the provision of a 2.7 V to 5.5 V power supply, along with input coupling and power supply decoupling capacitors.

Product Details

AD8313-EVALZ is a fully populated, 4-layer Rogers 4350 and FR4 based evaluation board. The top and bottom signal layers are Rogers 4350 and the internal layers are FR4. For normal operation, it requires a single power supply of 2.7 - 5.5 V, capable of delivering 50 mA. The power supply should be connected to the test loops labeled VPS1, VPS2 and GND. The test loop labeled VNEG, should be connected to ground. The RF input signal is applied to the SMA connector (INHA). VOUT is available from the SMA connector (VOUT). The SMA connectors ENBL and VSET allow the option of applying an external signal at these nodes.

The ad 8313 is very easy to use.With a few components around it is very easy to build a very wide band reception system. It is very stable,which is an important caracteristic for me building radioastronomy systems.It is easy to use preamplifiers :I used adl 5602 and also other circuits without problem.And is is easy to make it followed by op amps to modify its caracteristics:for example I use a ad8031 to zero the output voltage and amplify it.Really its caracteristics:wide band, good sensitivity,good stability are very useful. And for those who find it is very small,and who have no way of making a circuit board for its msop package,I found on the net msop test circuit boards,that make its use very simple.

Intend to use 8313 as signal level monitor at 835 MHz. Specifically to measure data carrier power in 25 Mhz bandwidth. Device performed as expected with over 60 dB dynamic range.
