The LTC6115 is a versatile combination of a high voltage, high side current sense amplifier and a voltage sense amplifier. Design flexibility is provided by the excellent device characteristics: ±500µV maximum offset voltage for current sense and maximum ±0.15% voltage sense total gain error.
The current sensing part of the LTC6115 monitors current by sensing the voltage across an external sense resistor. The sensed voltage is converted to an output current which can then be translated to a voltage by an external resistor, ROUT. Due to its fast response, it is a perfect choice for load current warning and shut-off protection control.
The LTC6115 also includes an internal 1MΩ resistor divider and a precision voltage amplifier for accurate voltage monitoring. The resistor attenuation of 40 enables sensing of up to 100V on the VIN pin, making it suitable for precision high voltage monitoring in telecommunications, industrial and automotive applications. The full-scale output voltage can be configured by external gain resistors to maximize use of the amplifier’s rail-to-rail output. The LTC6115 is available in a 12-lead MSOP package.

Demonstration circuit 2839A is a high voltage, high side current sense circuit featuring the LTC6115. This circuit measures inputs up to 100V and 2A. The board can be connected to Linduino® as a shield and has an accompanying Linduino sketch. The gain of the current sense channel may be set with jumpers to 5V/A (100V/V) or 2.5V/A (50V/V), and the gain of the voltage sense channel may be selected with jumpers for unity gain or 2V/V.
The DC2839A includes a 4-terminal 50mΩ sense resistor with a footprint for larger, higher-power rated parts. A 1:1000 resistor divider can be selected with jumpers to provide simulated mV-scale input difference voltages if high currents are not available.
The voltage sense and current sense can be configured to measure the same input or separate inputs.
