The Automotive Audio Bus (A2B®) provides a multichannel, I2S/TDM link over distances of up to 15 m between nodes. It embeds bidirectional synchronous pulse-code modulation (PCM) data (for example, digital audio), clock, and synchronization signals onto a single differential wire pair. A2B supports a direct point to point connection and allows multiple, daisy-chained nodes at different locations to contribute and/or consume time division multiplexed (TDM) channel content.
A2B is a single main node, multiple subordinate node system where the transceiver at the host controller is the main node. The main node generates clock, synchronization, and framing for all subordinate nodes. The main A2B transceiver is programmable over a control port (I2C) for configuration and read back. An extension of the control port protocol is embedded in the A2B data stream, which allows direct access of registers and status information on subordinate transceivers, as well as I2C to I2C communication over distance.
The transceiver can connect directly to general-purpose digital signal processors (DSPs), field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), microphones, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), digital-to-analog converters (DACs), and codecs through a multichannel I2S/TDM interface. It also provides a pulse density modulation (PDM) interface for direct connection of up to four PDM digital microphones.
Finally, the transceiver also supports an A2B bus powering feature, where the main node supplies voltage and current to the subordinate nodes over the same daisy-chained, twisted pair wire cable as used for the communication link.

Local-Power A2B® Subordinate Node (I2S/TDM, No PDM Mics)
Product Detail
An Automotive Audio Bus (A2B®) system consists of a single main node and at least one subordinate node, where the transceiver at the host controller is the main node. The main transceiver generates clock, synchronization, and framing for all subordinate nodes and is programmable over a control bus (I2C) for configuration and readback. An extension of this control bus is embedded in the A2B data stream, which enables the host to directly access subordinate transceiver registers and any I2C-connected peripherals on subordinate nodes. Transceivers can connect directly to PDM microphones and to numerous peripherals via I2C and a multichannel I2S/TDM interface. Finally, the transceiver also supports an A2B bus powering feature, where the main node supplies voltage and current to the subordinate nodes over the same daisy-chained, twisted pair wire cable as used for the communication link, thus eliminating the need for a power supply on bus-powered subordinate nodes. Due to the numerous configurations that are possible for a given A2B system, there are several evaluation platforms that can be used in combination to verify system operation, as summarized in the table below.

ADZS-AUDIOA2BAMP
A2B® Class-D Amplifier Module
Product Detail
The A2B Class-D Amplifier Module leverages ADI's low-latency A2B audio bus technology, featuring an AD2428W A2B transceiver (serving as an A2B subordinate) that accepts audio over the A2B bus from a connected A2B node in the system. The ADZS-AUDIOA2BAMP Module drives the received A2B data to a pair of high-efficiency, digital input, stereo SSM3582 class-D audio amplifiers. Audio is transmitted digitally to the amplifier, minimizing the possibility of signal corruption in digital environments. See the SSM3582 data sheet for more information.
As the A2B Class-D Amplifier Module is an A2B subordinate node, it must be incorporated into an A2B system with a main node, such as the SHARC® Audio Module or the A2B main evaluation board. Connect the A2B Class-D Amplifier Module to the system using the included A2B twisted-wire-pair cable.
