Celebrating 25 years of ADI at BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition

For 25 years in partnership with BT, Analog Devices has been a key Gold sponsor of the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) in Dublin every January. This support has been underpinned each year by a 25+ person team, who represent ADI and demonstrate some of the fundamental concepts of science and technology to the next generation of engineers and technologists. For junior ADI employees, the experience of BTYSTE is one to remember, an opportunity to learn, inspire, and build friendships with their ADI Ireland colleagues. ADI has always been passionate about STEM education and our role in supporting the communities where we work. The continued support of BTYSTE is a great example of this commitment and we look forward to continuing this journey into the future.

Awards—What Awards We Sponsor and Why

At the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE), Analog Devices is very proud to sponsor two separate awards, one for the student with the best project in the technology category and one for the educator of the year, who has gone above and beyond to support STEM in the classroom. These awards are very important to ADI as they show our appreciation for the continued STEM education and focus on technology in Ireland by schools. If we are to inspire future engineers, we need teachers to instill this desire at a young age. Similarly, if we are to empower our students to reach their full potential, we must always acknowledge their great work and achievements. The student winner each year always embodies the entrepreneurship, innovation, and ahead of what’s possible mindset that has allowed ADI to be successful for half a century. The support for these awards and BTYSTE as a whole, is one of many ways ADI is engaging the engineers of tomorrow.

Kinetic Tower

X+

student trying a game to generate the most power the fastest
Who can generate power with the greatest precision? Kinetic Tower challenges players to pedal sensitive cranks slowly and carefully to match a randomized power threshold. The player who generates power most accurately and gets closest to the target wins! Kinetic Tower features the cutting-edge ADE9178 energy metering IC, typically used in electric vehicle charging stations. This energy monitoring platform tracks each player’s power output in real time. As you pedal, the power you generate is visually represented by LED strips lighting up in front of you. The system is built on a Raspberry Pi 4b, with Python code managing data from the ADI energy monitoring platform, controlling the LEDs and running the game interface.

Green Table

Have you ever been curious to see how energy is created and utilized in the Irish power grid? Now you can make your own electricity! Control solar panels, make wind turbines rotate, or create heat for a geothermal factory—the power is in your hands. Embarking on a green energy revolution, the Green Table conveys a dynamic blend of geothermal, solar, and wind power. This approach ensures a constant and sustainable energy supply for communities. By tapping into the Earth’s natural warmth, harnessing the power of the sun, and capturing the strength of the wind, the Green Table shows how Ireland meets it renewable energy needs but also propels communities toward a cleaner, more sustainable future. Join us as we redefine energy solutions and empower communities with a trifecta of renewable sources.

ADI is involved in sustainable energy by designing energy metering ICs such as ADE9153A—a highly accurate, single-phase, energy metering IC with autocalibration used in smart power distributions. This year’s green table features an interactive information hub that highlights how ADI’s technology plays a crucial role in bringing the green table to life, supporting the growing focus on achieving Carbon Zero in today’s society.
