The ADGM3121 is a wideband, double-pole, double-throw (DPDT) switch, fabricated using Analog Devices, Inc., microelectromechanical system (MEMS) switch technology. This technology enables a small form factor, wide RF bandwidth, highly linear, low insertion loss switch that is operational down to 0Hz/DC, making it an ideal solution for a wide range of RF and precision equipment switching needs.

An integrated driver chip generates a high voltage to electrostatically actuate switch that can be controlled by a parallel interface or a serial peripheral interface (SPI). All switches are independently controllable.

The device is packaged in a 24-lead, 3mm × 3mm × 1.5mm land grid array package. To ensure optimum operation of the ADGM3121 refer to the Critical Operational Requirements section.

The on-resistance (RON) performance of the ADGM3121 is affected by part-to-part variation, channel-to-channel variation, cycle actuations, settling time post turn on, bias voltage, and temperature changes.

APPLICATIONS

  • ATE load and probe boards
  • DC with high speed loopback testing
  • Supports digital standards: high speed serialization/deserialization, PCIe Gen4/Gen5/Gen6, USB 4, and PAM 4
  • Relay replacements
  • Reconfigurable filters and attenuators
  • Military and microwave radios
  • Cellular infrastructure: 5G mmWave

EVAL-ADGM3121

Evaluating the ADGM3121 3mm × 3mm DPDT MEMS Switch, 0Hz/DC to 24GHz

Features and Benefits

  • Single-supply voltage: 3.3V
  • Wide frequency range: DC to 24GHz
  • 2.92mm connectors for RF signals
  • Parallel interface and SPI
  • On-board calibration through transmission line for analyzer calibration

Product Details

This user guide describes the EVAL-ADGM3121SDZ for the ADGM3121, a dual-chip, RF switching solution containing a double- pole, double-throw (DPDT), microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) switch, and a control chip co-packaged in a compact, 3.00mm × 3.00mm × 1.50mm, LGA package.

The DPDT switch uses Analog Devices, Inc., MEMS switch technology, providing optimum performance in terms of bandwidth, power handling capability, and linearity for RF applications. The control chip generates the high-voltage signals needed for the MEMS switch and allows the user to control its operation through a simple and flexible complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS)/low voltage transistor to transistor logic (LVTTL)-compliant parallel-interface as well as through a serial-peripheral interface (SPI). It is possible to daisy-chain multiple ADGM3121 devices together to enable the configuration of multiple devices with a minimal number of digital lines.

For SPI, the EVAL-ADGM3121SDZ connects to the USB port of a PC through the system demonstration platform (SDP) board. The EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board (SDP-B controller board) is available to order at the Analog Devices website.

The ADGM3121 comes fitted with connectors for RF and control signals as well as links to control the operation of the switch and evaluate its performance.

For full details on the ADGM3121, see the ADGM3121 data sheet, which must be consulted in conjunction with this user guide when using the EVAL-ADGM3121SDZ.

EVAL-24LGA33EBZ

Evaluation Board for the 24-Lead LGA Devices in the Switches and Multiplexers Portfolio

Features and Benefits

  • 24-lead, 3mm × 3mm LGA evaluation board
  • Easily changeable socket for the main device
  • SMA connectors for the input and output of signals
  • Integrated Arduino shield support

Product Details

The EVAL-24LGA33EBZ enables easy evaluation of the 24- lead land grid array (LGA) package devices in the Switches and Multiplexers Portfolio that are purchased separately. The EVAL-24LGA33EBZ is supplied with a socket to secure a 24-lead LGA device to the evaluation board without the need for soldering.

Figure 1 in the User Guide shows the EVAL-24LGA33EBZ. A 24-lead LGA device can be easily inserted into the central socket of the evaluation board that is designed for flexible testing of various switch configurations. Each device pin connects to a header (K1 to K24), allowing users to route signals, tie pins to ground, or configure the pins as needed. K1 to K15 support general input/output (I/O) or ground connections. The EVAL-24LGA33EBZ supports two control modes: internal logic using K20 to K23, or serial peripheral interface (SPI) using K16 to K19. The control mode is selected through K24, where connecting it to GND enables internal control and connecting it to VDD enables SPI. The EVAL-24LGA33EBZ has Subminiature Version A (SMA) connectors (J1 to J19) that connect directly to the device pins and are used for signal access, allowing users to easily apply or monitor control signals during testing.

The full specifications of the device under test (DUT) are available in the corresponding product data sheet, which must be consulted with the EVAL-24LGA33EBZ user guide when using the EVAL-24LGA33EBZ.
