The ADE7953 is a high accuracy electrical energy measurement IC intended for single phase applications. It measures line voltage and current and calculates active, reactive, and apparent energy, as well as instantaneous rms voltage and current.

The device incorporates three Σ-Δ ADCs with a high accuracy energy measurement core. The second input channel simultaneously measures neutral current and enables tamper detection and neutral current billing. The additional channel incorporates a complete signal path that allows a full range of measurements. Each input channel supports independent and flexible gain stages, making the device suitable for use with a variety of current sensors such as current transformers (CTs) and low value shunt resistors. Two on-chip integrators facilitate the use of Rogowski coil sensors.

The ADE7953 provides access to on-chip meter registers via a variety of communication interfaces including SPI, I²C, and UART. Two configurable low jitter pulse output pins provide outputs that are proportional to active, reactive, or apparent energy, as well as current and voltage rms. A full range of power quality information such as overcurrent, overvoltage, peak, and sag detection are accessible via the external IRQ pin. Independent active, reactive, and apparent no-load detections are included to prevent “meter creep.” Dedicated reverse power (REVP), zero-crossing voltage (ZX), and zero-crossing current (ZX_I) pins are also provided. The ADE7953 energy metering IC operates from a 3.3 V supply voltage and is available in a 28-lead LFCSP package.

The ADE9153A is a highly accurate, single-phase, energy metering IC with autocalibration. The mSure^® autocalibration feature allows a meter to automatically calibrate the current and voltage channels without using an accurate source or an accurate reference meter when a shunt resistor is used as a current sensor. Class 1 and Class 2 meters are supported by mSure autocalibration.

The ADE9153A incorporates three high performance analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), providing an 88 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The ADE9153A offers an advanced metrology feature set of measurements like line voltage and current, active energy, fundamental reactive energy, and apparent energy calculations, and current and voltage rms calculations. ADE9153A includes power quality measurements such as zero crossing detection, line period calculation, angle measurement, dip and swell, peak and overcurrent detection, and power factor measurements. Each input channel supports independent and flexible gain stages. Current Channel A is ideal for shunts, having a flexible gain stage and providing full-scale input ranges from 62.5 mV peak down to 26.04 mV peak. Current Channel B has gain stages of 1×, 2×, and 4× for use with current transformers (CTs). A high speed, 10 MHz, serial peripheral interface (SPI) port allows access to the ADE9153A registers.

The ADE9153A operates from a 3.3 V supply and is available in a 32-lead LFCSP package.

The ADE9000 is a highly accurate, fully integrated, multiphase energy and power quality monitoring device. Superior analog performance and a digital signal processing (DSP) core enable accurate energy monitoring over a wide dynamic range. An integrated high end reference ensures low drift over temperature with a combined drift of less than ±25 ppm/°C maximum for the entire channel including a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC).

The ADE9000 offers complete power monitoring capability by providing total as well as fundamental measurements on rms, active, reactive, and apparent powers and energies. Advanced features such as dip and swell monitoring, frequency, phase angle, voltage total harmonic distortion (VTHD), current total harmonic distortion (ITHD), and power factor measurements enable implementation of power quality measurements. The ½ cycle rms and 10 cycle rms/12 cycle rms, calculated according to IEC 61000-4-30 Class S, provide instantaneous rms measurements for real-time monitoring.

The ADE9000 offers an integrated flexible waveform buffer that stores samples at a fixed data rate of 32 kSPS or 8 kSPS, or a sampling rate that varies based on line frequency to ensure 128 points per line cycle. Resampling simplifies fast Fourier transform (FFT) calculation of at least 50 harmonics in an external processor.

The ADE9000 simplifies the implementation of energy and power quality monitoring systems by providing tight integration of acquisition and calculation engines. The integrated ADCs and DSP engine calculate various parameters and provide data through user accessible registers or indicate events through interrupt pins. With seven dedicated ADC channels, the ADE9000 can be used on a 3-phase system or up to three single-phase systems. It supports current transformers (CTs) or Rogowski coils for current measurements. A digital integrator eliminates a discrete integrator required for Rogowski coils.

The ADE9000 absorbs most complexity in calculations for a power monitoring system. With a simple host microcontroller, the ADE9000 enables the design of standalone monitoring or protection systems, or low cost nodes uploading data into the cloud.

Note that throughout this data sheet, multifunction pins, such as CF4/EVENT/DREADY, are referred to either by the entire pin name or by a single function of the pin, for example, EVENT, when only that function is relevant.

The ADE9103/ADE9112/ADE9113are precision simultaneously sampling Σ-Δ analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) for both DC and polyphase shunt-based energy metering applications. The ADE9113 integrates safety certified signal and power galvanic isolation with three simultaneously sampling fully differential 24-bit Σ-Δ ADC channels. The ADE9112 features two fully differential Σ-Δ ADC channels for isolated applications where only a single voltage channel is required. The ADE9103 is a nonisolated, 3-channel Σ-Δ ADC for use in applications where isolation is not required, such as for neutral measurement. The ADE9103/ADE9112/ADE9113 all include a high-gain, current channel best suited for use with a shunt resistor as the current sensor. Multiple ADE9103/ADE9112/ ADE9113 devices can be synchronized to sample simultaneously and provide coherent outputs.

The current channel ADC provides an 86 dBFS signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), at a sample rate of 4 kSPS, over a 1.65 kHz signal bandwidth and a typical gain drift of 13 ppm/°C, which enables down to Class 0.2 accuracy. The voltage ADCs provide an SNR of 91 dBFS over the same sample rate and bandwidth. The high gain on the current channel (IP and IM) aids the use of lower resistance shunts for reduced losses due to heat. The low offset drift of 2 nV/°C offers the performance required for DC metering.

The ADE9103/ADE9112/ADE9113 delivers system cost savings and increased robustness. The main ADE9103/ADE9112/ADE9113 can drive clocks of up to three additional ADE9103/ADE9112/ ADE9113 with a single crystal. The bidirectional, serial port interface (SPI) supports a daisy-chain capability, allowing access to all registers while reducing the required microcontroller pin count. The 28-lead SOIC_W_FP allows more compact layouts. Valid data transfers are ensured with bidirectional, cyclic redundancy check (CRC) and IRQ pin alerts the system of critical faults. The ADE9112 and ADE9113 pass CISPR 32 Class B emissions on a 2-layer printed circuit board (PCB) with the addition of a high voltage capacitor and on a 4-layer PCB with an internal stitching capacitor.

The ADE9430 offers a complete power quality monitoring capability by providing instantaneous total as well as fundamental measurements on rms, frequency, phase angle, power factor active, reactive, and apparent powers and energies. Using the optional ADSWPQ-CLS Power Quality Library, advanced power quality features, such as dip and swell monitoring, power frequency, voltage total harmonic distortion (VTHD), and current total harmonic distortion (ITHD), are enabled. The one cycle rms, 10 cycle rms/12 cycle rms, and the optional ADSW-PQ-CLS Power Quality Library features are calculated according to IEC 61000-4-30 Class S. The ADE9430 offers a resampled waveform of 1024 points per 10 cycles or 12 cycles. Resampling simplifies the fast Fourier transform (FFT) calculation of at least 40 harmonics in an external processor.

The ADE9430 simplifies the implementation and certification of energy and power quality monitoring systems by providing tight integration of acquisition and calculation engines.
