The LTM4640 is a complete 20A step-down switching mode power μModule® (micromodule) regulator in a tiny 6.25mm × 6.25mm × 5.07mm BGA package. The package includes the switching controller, the power MOSFETs, an inductor, and the supporting components. Operating over an input voltage range of 3.1V to 20V, the LTM4640 supports an output voltage range of 0.6V to 3.3V, set by a single external resistor. Its high-efficiency design delivers up to 20A continuous output current. Only bulk input and output capacitors are needed.

The LTM4640 supports selectable discontinuousconduction mode (DCM) operation and output voltage tracking for supply rail sequencing. Its high switching frequency and controlled on-time valley current mode architecture enable a very fast transient response to line and load changes without sacrificing stability. Fault protection features include overvoltage and overtemperature protection.

The LTM4640 is available with a RoHS-compliant terminal finish.

Product Details

The DC3107A evaluation board features the LTM®4640 μModule® (micromodule) regulator, a high performance, and high-efficiency step-down regulator. The LTM4640 is a complete DC-to-DC point-of-load (POL) regulator in a thermally enhanced 6.25mm × 6.25mm × 5.17mm BGA package. The LTM4640 has an operating input voltage range of 3.1V to 20V and provides an output current of up to 20A. The output voltage is programmable from 0.6V to 3.3V and can be remotely sensed. The stacked inductor design improves thermal dissipation and significantly reduces the package area. Output voltage tracking is available through the TRACK/ SS pin for supply rail sequencing. External clock synchronization is available through the SYNC/MODE pin. For high efficiency at low load currents, select discontinuous-conduction mode (DCM) operation using the MODE jumper (JP7) in less noise-sensitive applications. Refer to the LTM4640 data sheet and read this user guide before working on or modifying the DC3107A evaluation board.
