The ADXL317 is a small, thin, low latency, 3-axis accelerometer with high resolution (14-bit) measurement up to ±16 g. Digital output data is formatted as an I2S/time-division multiplexing (TDM) signal. Additionally, an I2C digital interface is provided for user configuration.
The ADXL317 is well suited for wideband active noise control (ANC) applications. Featuring very low latency from the moment of acceleration to the transmission of digital output data, the ADXL317 is uniquely capable of responding quickly enough to allow wideband ANC systems sufficient time to respond to noise scenarios. The low noise of the ADXL317 enhances the ability of the device to accurately discriminate various external noise sources.
Due to the wide operating temperature range and high performance, the ADXL317 is ideal for other wheel well applications, such as adaptive suspension control. The Automotive Audio Bus (A2B®) developed by Analog Devices, Inc., introduces system wide savings in cabling costs. The ADXL317 is designed to interface directly with the A2B product portfolio, such as the AD2428W and AD2425W A2B transceivers.
The ADXL317 is supplied in a small, thin, 5 mm × 5 mm × 1.45 mm, 32-pin LFCSP package. The device is qualified for use in automotive applications over the entire operating temperature range of –40°C to +125°C.
Note that throughout this data sheet, multifunction pins, such as DTX1/TPC, are referred to either by the entire pin name or by a single function of the pin, for example, DTX1, when only that function is relevant.

Evaluation Kits (2)
The EVAL-ADXL317Z is a simple breakout board that enables easy connection of an ADXL317 into an existing system. Due to its small size, the EVAL-ADXL317Z has minimal effect on performance of the system and of the accelerometer, and thus it is ideal for evaluation of the ADXL317 in an existing system. Note that the ADXL317 uses I2S/TDM serial interface for data transmission and I2C for configuration. No processor is included with the EVAL-ADXL317Z; firmware must be supplied externally by the user. The EVAL-ADXL317-SDP is an easy-to-use Customer Evaluation System that allows the user a quick start on testing and evaluating the ADXL317 accelerometer. The system consists of a main board (EVAL-SDP-CB1Z evaluation platform), an interface board (EVAL-SDP-INTER-317Z), and a satellite board (EVAL-ADXL317Z breakout board).
The EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board, also called "SDP-B", connects directly to a PC via an USB cable, with the USB connection providing both communications and power to the board. The SDP-B is connected to the interface board (EVAL-SDP- INTER-317Z), which provides the signal conditioning and electrical connections to communicated with the satellite board (EVAL-ADXL317Z) through a cable. This cable allows the satellite to be easily manipulated for testing or separately placed into an environmental chamber for temperature or humidity testing. Separating the boards mitigates corruption of data due to the temperature and humidity effects of other components.
The EVAL-ADXL317-SDP Customer Evaluation System comes with all the necessary cables and connectors. Each part of this kit can be purchased separately.
