The LTC6804 is a 3rd generation multicell battery stack monitor that measures up to 12 series connected battery cells with a total measurement error of less than 1.2mV. The cell measurement range of 0V to 5V makes the LTC6804 suitable for most battery chemistries. All 12 cell voltages can be captured in 290μs, and lower data acquisition rates can be selected for high noise reduction.

Multiple LTC6804 devices can be connected in series, permitting simultaneous cell monitoring of long, high voltage battery strings. Each LTC6804 has an isoSPI interface for high speed, RF-immune, local area communications. Using the LTC6804-1, multiple devices are connected in a daisy-chain with one host processor connection for all devices. Using the LTC6804-2, multiple devices are connected in parallel to the host processor, with each device individually addressed.

Additional features include passive balancing for each cell, an onboard 5V regulator, and 5 general purpose I/O lines. In sleep mode, current consumption is reduced to 4μA. The LTC6804 can be powered directly from the battery, or from an isolated supply.

Applications

  • Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles
  • Backup Battery Systems
  • Grid Energy Storage

DC2100B-D

12 Cell 4A Stackable Slave Bidirectional Active Cell Balancer Featuring LTC6804-2 and LTC3300-1(x2)

Product Details

Demonstration Circuit DC2100B-D is a stackable, bidirectional cell balancer slave board using the LTC6804-2 and the LTC3300-1 ICs to achieve active balancing of up to 12 Li-Ion cells. It requires the DC2100B-C for proper operation. The DC2100B-D uses a single LTC6804-2 Multi-Cell Addressable Battery Stack Monitor IC to measure cell voltages and two LTC3300-1 Synchronous Flyback ICs to provide active cell balancing. The DC2100B-C controller board contains a PIC18F47J53 microcontroller, the LTM2884 isolated USB transceiver, the LTC6804-2, two LTC3300-1 ICs, and the LTC6820 isoSPI Interface IC to facilitate isolated communication. Up to seven DC2100B-D boards can be connected to a DC2100B-C to build a stacked system of eight total boards.

LTC6804-2 Demo Board | Addressable isoSPI Battery-Stack Monitor (DC2026)

Product Details

Demonstration circuit 1942C is an addressable isoSPI battery-stack monitor featuring the LTC6804-2. These boards can be linked through a 2-wire isolated serial interface to monitor any number of cells on a stack. Communication to a PC uses a DC590 USB interface board. A control program for up to ten stacked boards has a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to implement the device command set.

DC1941D

LTC6820 isoSPI Demoboard (DC590B required)

Product Details

Demonstration circuit 1941 is an isoSPI™ transceiver board, based on Linear Technology’s LTC6820. The LTC6820 provides a method of interconnecting standard serial peripheral interface (SPI) devices using a single twisted pair connection. This proprietary 2-wire interface is called isoSPI. The LTC6820 encodes SPI signals, up to 1Mbps, into a differential isoSPI signal which is transmitted via a simple pulse transformer through a twisted pair. At the other end of the twisted pair, the isoSPI signal can be translated back to SPI (using another LTC6820).
