The MAT12 is a dual, NPN-matched transistor pair that is specifically designed to meet the requirements of ultralow noise audio systems.

With its extremely low input base spreading resistance (rbb' is typically 28 Ω) and high current gain (hFE typically exceeds 600 at IC = 1 mA), the MAT12 can achieve outstanding signal-to-noise ratios. The high current gain results in superior performance compared to systems incorporating commercially available monolithic amplifiers.

Excellent matching of the current gain (ΔhFE) to about 0.5% and low VOS of less than 10 µV typical make the MAT12 ideal for symmetrically balanced designs, which reduce high-order amplifier harmonic distortion.

Stability of the matching parameters is guaranteed by protection diodes across the base emitter junction. These diodes prevent degradation of beta and matching characteristics due to reverse biasing of the base emitter junction.

The MAT12 is also an ideal choice for accurate and reliable current biasing and mirroring circuits. Furthermore, because the accuracy of a current mirror degrades exponentially with mismatches of VBE between transistor pairs, the low VOS of the MAT12 does not need offset trimming in most circuit applications.

The MAT12 is a good replacement for the MAT02, and its performance and characteristics are guaranteed over the extended temperature range of −40°C to +85°C

It is becoming quite difficult to source obsolete matched transistors. My field of analog electronic music requires them. Aside from any new designs that I'll use the MAT12 in, I used one to replace an SSM2210 and made a malfunctioning circuit work perfectly. Please continue to produce them!

After extensive testing, we have confirmed MAT12 as an ideal input audio stage pair because both transistors of the pair are fabricated on the same chip of silicon, thus greatly reducing performance differences that would exist between separate chips of silicon. This is a unique situation where the monolithic process and therefore one pair on same substrate for optimum matching is superior to discrete pairs, transistors side-by-side. We just hope now that AD will continue with releasing the complementary PNP version for MAT12, hopefully soon enough. Keep up the good work and thanks!

Thankyou for your invite to review the MAT12 devices that i have as samples. Unfortunately, i have not had the opportunity to use them just yet due to other pressing designs. I do hope to test them in the next 10 weeks.

Exemplary Audio Performance!
Well-matched NPN pair for audio. Pretty quiet for BJT (esp. if you keep Zin low), VERY good sounding, and the TO-78 METAL CAN exhibits good thermal tracking vs. all the sand-in-plastic alternatives. Best matched pair for audio of the 14 we've tested. Pricey (good audio always is), but excellent.

MAT12 great for audio
We are testing MAT12 for a while. Scope of our R&D is find the best match of MAT12 in our low noise low signal audio input stage design. MAT12 performs as specs, however we're in a hard need of similar PNP device, and more tests will be performed. Thanks AD for the NPN version, what would be the expected time for the PNP version?

low noise TR
As described in the data sheet, MAT12 is pretty low noise one with precisely matched characteristics. pretty useful for various instrumentation especially.

Great product for audio ...
We are testing various low noise audio input amplifier configurations, including first stages with OPAs and transistors. Just started a test design for MAT12 as low noise - first stage audio amplifier. We'll look forward comparing performance versus ADA4898-1 and ADA4627-1B. I'll take this opportunity to fill an official request for the the MAT12's PNP version, hopefully soon enough.

This product has good features
MAT12 is a good device than these of in general devices. MAT12 provides low voltage noise, a matching current gain, low offset voltage,..., etc.

Perfect performance
Perfect performance. I build a solid state preamplifier using this MAT12. The sonic performance is great as well as the noise performace. The current noise density is a little bit high duo to the nature of BJT input stage. So minimize the input resistor is important.

Would be great to see more parts in traditional packaging as they are better suitable for designing and evaluating than SMD. Unfortunately some products are available in SMD packages only.

Great matching characteristics.
Very good transistor. Very low noise and great matching characteristics. It is quite expensive but it does deliver.
