CloseMOBILE WORLD CONGRESS: A UNIVERSE OF DATA
Long have the trend lines pointed ahead to an impending data explosion. In fact, we are already experiencing an exponential growth of data: The world accumulated its first zettabyte of data in 20121, and some forecasts anticipate that the world will be producing more than a yottabyte of data per year by 20302. That’s an annual byte count comparable to the number of stars in our universe.
This rapid growth shows no signs of slowing, so the question now is how the communications industry can efficiently manage such an astronomical volume of data. The information and communications technology industry already contributes between 3% and 4% of global CO2 emissions—twice as much as the aviation industry3—and that share will likely increase as data volumes climb toward the yottabyte range.
Improvements to network technology and industry ecosystems are a promising start, but innovation efforts must scale with this vast amount of data. In this interview, Andy McLean drills down into the biggest challenge facing the communications industry today, and how Analog Devices is working to help accelerate capacity and energy saving solutions.

A yottabyte of data by 2030? Watch to learn how innovators can (and must) collaborate to solve the biggest challenge in the communications industry today.
