The MAX20305/MAX20306 are overvoltage protectors that provide protection against positive voltages fault up to +28VDC to valuable consumer circuits. An internal clamp also protects the devices from surges up to ±100V. An overcurrent flag can be used to shut down the part.

The devices feature reverse-bias-blocking capability. Unlike other overvoltage protectors, when the devices are disabled, the voltage applied to OUT does not feed back into the VBUS side. The devices also feature OTG enable (OTG_EN) that allows OUT voltage to supply VBUS when OUT is higher than output startup voltage.

These overvoltage-protection devices feature high voltage, low on-resistance (23mΩ, typ) internal FETs, effectively minimizing a voltage drop across the device. When the input voltage exceeds the overvoltage threshold, the internal FET is turned off to prevent damage to the protected components. These devices also have thermal shutdown protection against overload conditions.

The overvoltage-protection threshold can be adjusted to any voltage between 3.5V and 5.5V with optional external resistors. The devices automatically choose the accurate internal trip thresholds when the overvoltage-lockout input is set lower than the external OVLO select voltage. The internal OVLO is preset to 4.7V (typ).

These devices are available in a 30-bump (2.65mm x 2.23mm) wafer-level package (WLP) and operate over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range.
