The LTC6806 is a fuel cell monitor that measures up to 144 Series Connected Fuel cells with a total measurement error of less than 15mV. The LTC6806 includes 36 input channels, each with a ±5V measurement range allowing each channel to measure from 1 to 4 series-connected fuel cells.
All 36 inputs can be measured within 6.75ms in fast ADC mode. Lower data acquisition rates can be selected for high noise reduction. In the normal ADC mode, all cells are measured within 10.3ms, with a total measurement error of less than 15mV.
Each LTC6806 has an isoSPI interface for high speed, RF-immune, long distance communications. Two communication modes are available by pin selection: in daisy-chain mode, multiple devices are connected in a daisy chain with one host processor connection for all devices; in parallel mode, multiple devices are connected in parallel to the host processor, with each device individually addressed.
Multiple LTC6806 devices can be connected in series, permitting simultaneous cell monitoring of very large fuel cell stacks. As shown in the typical application, twelve LTC6806s are connected in series to monitor 432 fuel cells. Alternatively, 432 cells can be monitored using six ICs by monitoring groups of two cells, or four ICs by monitoring groups of three cells.

The demonstration circuit DC2792B is an SPI serial to dual-port isoSPI adapter that uses a pair of multiplexed LTC6820 isoSPI transceivers and miniaturized isoSPI connectors (2 contact DuraClik). The board can functionally replace a DC1941 in cases where isoSPI battery-management (BMS) devices are being evaluated, but provides a second isoSPI master to exercise the reversible isoSPI feature where available. The SPI interface can be provided via the legacy 14-contact ribbon cable from either a DC590 or DC2026 USB adapter, or directly installed on the DC2026 as a Linduino shield. The two isoSPI ports are MAIN and AUXiliary, with activity of each indicated by blue LEDs. For use in place of DC1941 or non-reversible isoSPI networks, the MAIN port must be used. Power for the DC2792B comes indirectly from the USB port of the host computer, via the USB to serial adapter being used.
Demonstration circuit 2192B is a fuel cell monitor featuring the LTC6806, a 36-channel fuel cell monitor. Multiple boards can be linked through a 2-wire isolated serial interface (isoSPI™) to monitor a long series of cells in a stack. The DC2192B demo circuit also features reversible isoSPI enabling a redundant communication path. The PCB, components and DuraClik connectors are optimized for low EMI susceptibility and emissions.
The DC2192B can communicate to a PC by connecting a DC2792B dual master isoSPI together with DC2026 Linduino® One. The DC2026 must be loaded with the appropriate program (called a sketch) to control the battery stack monitor IC and receive data through a USB serial port. The DC2026C provides a standard SPI interface which can be translated to isoSPI and then connected to a DC2192B isoSPI port (J3/J4 connector). The DC2792B provides two SPI-isoSPI channels for reversible operation.
