The LT®8342 is a low IQ, synchronous step-up DC/DC converter. It features a Silent Switcher architecture and optional spread spectrum frequency modulation to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI) emissions while delivering high efficiencies at high switching frequencies. Output short circuit protection and inrush current reduction are optional.

The wide input/output voltage range, low VIN pin quiescent current in Burst Mode operation, and 100% duty cycle capability for the synchronous MOSFET in PassThru operation (VIN ≥ VOUT) make the LT8342 ideally suited for general-purpose step-up and automotive Pre- Boost applications.

To reduce VOUT quiescent current in the feedback loop, an optional internal resistor divider (≥10MΩ) and two pins select 21 output voltage levels.

The LT8342 integrates 40V, 9A power switches, operating at a switching frequency programmable between 300kHz and 3MHz and synchronizable to an external clock. The LT8342 features a programmable output soft-start, output power good flag, and output overvoltage lockout.

    The EVAL-LT8342-AZ evaluation board provides a proven design to evaluate the LT8342, a 40V, 9A, Low IQ Synchronous Step-Up Silent Switcher™ with Input Disconnect and PassThru™. The application circuit is configured to demonstrate optimum performance and component size. Using the board layout example, optimized for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), and thermal performance, will help ensure the designer sees similar performance in their system.

    The evaluation board is configured to run at 2MHz with a 24V output voltage from an input voltage range of 6V to 20V and deliver up to 3A load current when VIN is 12V.

    The evaluation board features an adjustable input undervoltage-lockout, external clock synchronization, thermal shutdown, selectable mode of operation, input disconnect, and PassThru.
