The LT1086 is designed to provide up to 1.5A output current. All internal circuitry is designed to operate down to 1V input-to-output differential and the dropout voltage is fully specified as a function of load current. Dropout is guaranteed at several operating points up to a maximum of 1.5V at maximum output current. Dropout decreases at lower load currents. On-chip trimming adjusts the reference/ouput voltage to 1%. Current limit is also trimmed, minimizing the stress on both the regulator and powersource circuitry under overload conditions.
The LT1086 is pin compatible with older 3-terminal adjustableregulators. A minimum 10µF output capacitor isrequired on these devices.
The LT1086 offers excellent line and load regulation specifications and ripple rejection exceeds 75dB even at the maximum load current of 1.5A. The LT1086 is floating architecture with a composite NPN output stage. All of the quiescent current and the drive current for the output stage flows to the load increasing efficiency.
The LT1086 is available in a 3-pin TO-220 package and a space-saving surface mountable 3-pin DD package.
