The ADuM4121/ADuM4121-1 are 2 A isolated, single-channel drivers that employ Analog Devices, Inc.’s iCoupler® technology to provide precision isolation. The ADuM4121/ADuM4121-1 provide 5 kV rms isolation in the wide-body, 8-lead SOIC package. Combining high speed CMOS and monolithic transformer technology, these isolation components provide outstanding performance characteristics superior to alternatives such as the combination of pulse transformers and gate drivers.

The ADuM4121/ADuM4121-1 operate with an input supply ranging from 2.5 V to 6.5 V, providing compatibility with lower voltage systems. In comparison to gate drivers that employ high voltage level translation methodologies, the ADuM4121/ ADuM4121-1 offer the benefit of true, galvanic isolation between the input and the output.

The ADuM4121/ADuM4121-1 include an internal Miller clamp that activates at 2 V on the falling edge of the gate drive output, supplying the driven gate with a lower impedance path to reduce the chance of Miller capacitance induced turn on.

Options exists to allow the thermal shutdown to be enabled or disabled. As a result, the ADuM4121/ADuM4121-1 provide reliable control over the switching characteristics of insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT)/metal oxide semiconductor field, effect transistor (MOSFET) configurations over a wide range of switching voltages.

The EVAL-ADuM4121EBZ and EVAL-ADuM4121-1EBZ evaluation boards support the ADuM4121/ADuM4121-1 single-channel gate drivers with an integrated miller clamp. Analog Devices, Inc., iCoupler® technology provides isolation between the input signal and the output gate driver. The EVAL-ADuM4121-1EBZ option is populated with the ADuM4121-1 which does not contain an internal thermal shutdown and does not shutdown the output in case of junction temperatures above 155°C (typical).


The ADuM4121 provides operation with voltages of up to 35 V. The integrated miller clamp activates on the falling edge of an edge transition to further clamp the output low to counteract miller turn on effects.


The EVAL-ADuM4121EBZ evaluation board facilitates testing of the propagation delay, drive strength, miller clamp functionality, and input logic of the device.

The EVAL-ADuM4121WHB1Z is a half-bridge gate drive board that allows simple evaluation of the performance of the ADuM4121 when driving advanced Wolfspeed silicon carbide (SiC) metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) and power modules. The EVAL-ADuM4121WHB1Z is intended to be used with the Wolfspeed SpeedVal Kit modular evaluation platform and Wolfspeed clamped inductive load (CIL) test boards or with the half-bridge evaluation boards and differential transceiver boards.

The EVAL-ADuM4121WHB1Z has an isolated return channel that is configured to read a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor and provide a variable frequency output corresponding to the resistance and temperature of the NTC.

The control and input interface for the EVAL-ADuM4121WHB1Z uses RS-422 signaling for improved noise and disturbance immunity and includes a 12 V power input for the EVAL-ADuM4121WHB1Z.
