The AD9837 is a low power, programmable waveform generator capable of producing sine, triangular, and square wave outputs. Waveform generation is required in various types of sensing, actuation, and time domain reflectometry (TDR) applications. The output frequency and phase are software programmable, allowing easy tuning. The frequency registers are 28 bits: with a 16 MHz clock rate, resolution of 0.06 Hz can be achieved; with a 5 MHz clock rate, the AD9837 can be tuned to 0.02 Hz resolution.

The AD9837 is written to via a 3-wire serial interface. This serial interface operates at clock rates up to 40 MHz and is compatible with DSP and microcontroller standards. The device operates with a power supply from 2.3 V to 5.5 V.

The AD9837 has a power-down (SLEEP) function. Sections of the device that are not being used can be powered down to minimize the current consumption of the part. For example, the DAC can be powered down when a clock output is being generated.

The AD9837 is available in a 10-lead LFCSP_WD package.

The Evaluation board for the AD9837 contains an SDP-B connection and software allowing the AD9837 to be controlled from an SDP board.

The SDP Controller board is a separate list item in the ordering guide below (EVAL-SDP-CB1Z). If you have not previously purchased an SDP Controller board, please do so to ensure a full evaluation setup.

This is a perfect IC for new designs.Only thing we have to know is the mode of SPI waveform while interfacing with 8051.We have finally achieved the Clock Polarity is '1' and clock phase is '0' by trial and error method.It will be more useful if you add these details in the datasheet.

AD9837
Using AD9837 as source of a clear sine for AC bridge sensor. Initially had plan to use MCU internal DAC as a sine source. When test MCU DAC, faced some problems with timing , impact of MCU PLL excessive jitter , etc. Finally decided switch to DDS IS and found AD9837 as a best choise. Not perfectly matched to my design, because need in some additional tricks to make IQ strobes for detector. But practically have no another choice, considering price and dimensions constrains.

almost as AD9834 ...
A resolution of 10 bits is small, as is the range of frequencies with respect to AD9834 - the only advantage is a smaller power supply.

DDS very easy to programming with use SPI
In this DDS one drawback of square wave outputs because of this output rail is high Volt compare to sine wave and triangular wave(645mVolt), also required more extra front end for square wave

Great frequency resolution and easy to use, i'm glad with this IC
This circuit is perfect, I would integrate this IC within a microcontroller as a very high accuracy source clock for timer registers (PWM).
