Analog Devices’ decision to open its proven GMSL™ technology through the OpenGMSL open standard framework reflected a deliberate shift: transforming video connectivity from a proprietary advantage into a shared architectural foundation that enables ecosystem-wide innovation.
ADI recognized this inflection point early and decided that rather than continuing to compete at the interface level, they made a deliberate move to help reshape it, enabling a more scalable, system-level approach to connectivity.
GMSL has already achieved broad adoption, supporting more than 30 OEMs globally and enabling over a billion high-speed video links on the road across ADAS, safety, and infotainment applications. Looking to the future, the challenge is not capability, but fragmentation.
As system complexity increases, fragmentation in connectivity platforms begins to cause higher costs in development, validation, reuse, and cross-platform integration. With a shift to open standardization, cost efficiencies are realized, time to market is reduced, risks are reduced, and the ecosystem scales faster, with improved interoperability.
ADI helped establish the OpenGMSL Association (OGA) to create a shared connectivity foundation, enabling ecosystem-wide interoperability and allowing OEMs and partners to focus on system-level differentiation, software-defined functionality, and user experience.

OpenGMSL Association (OGA) is an industry consortium initiated by Analog Devices and ecosystem partners to establish its groundbreaking GMSL technology as an open, global standard for high-speed video and data connectivity. OGA creates a shared, interoperable foundation that replaces proprietary fragmentation, accelerates innovation, and scales across automotive and emerging industrial, robotics, and healthcare applications.
