Definition
SPDT (single-pole/double-throw) is a switch with three leads, one of which is common. The common lead can connect to one or the other leads exclusively.
Other single-pole multi-throw switches include SP3T, SP4T, SP6T, and SP8T. These are switches with one input path that can be routed to any of 3, 4, 6, or 8 output paths, respectively.
What are SPDT switches used for?
Single-pole multi-throw switches are used for a broad range of applications in military, aerospace, communications, automotive, and instrumentation markets. Applications include cellular infrastructure, private mobile radio handsets, automotive telematics, and test equipment.
