Silent, Efficient, and Compact µModule DC/DC Power Regulators
The Switch-mode power supplies as voltage regulators are extensively used in analog or digital devices. Some of the subsystems in communications, imaging, testing, and measurement applications are highly noise-sensitive. In these kind of applications, a DC-DC converter with extremely low noise is required. In this video, we will highlight 3 devices: LTM4702, LTM4703, LTM4707, which are µModule’s newest product offerings featuring ultralow noise. These are Silent Switcher 3 Ultralow Noise step-down µModule regulators capable of delivering either 8A, 12A or 16A output current across a wide input range (3V to 16V) and a wide output range (0.3V to 6V). The RMS noise is as low as 8uV, which is even lower than many traditional linear regulars. So you could eliminate traditional linear regulators in your system, which helps to save cost, reduce power loss, and PCB space. Beside the low noise feature, these 3 devices also have the following features.
- They have an innovative 3D package structure which includes the switching controller, the power MOSFETs, an inductor, and support components in a tiny 6.25×6.25×5mm BGA package. Only bulk input and output capacitors are needed to finish the design. Complete solution size is below 0.5cm2, which is 60% smaller than a discrete solution.
- The LTM4702, LTM4703 and LTM4707 are pin-compatible with each other, so you could use one layout to fit all three different power requests. As the complete, tested & qualified power solutions, you could design LTM4702/03/07 into your system in a timely manner.
- They could achieve very fast load transient performance that is desired in wireless and RF applications. With a fast control loop, the load response could recover within 5uS, allowing a negligible blanking time. These parts could resolve the system designer’s challenge of low signal processing efficiency caused by the load transient blanking period.
