The AD8476 is a very low power, fully differential precision amplifier with integrated gain resistors for unity gain. It is an ideal choice for driving low power, high performance ADCs as a single-ended-to-differential or differential-to-differential amplifier. It provides a precision gain of 1, common-mode level shifting, low temperature drift, and rail-to-rail outputs for maximum dynamic range.

The AD8476 also provides overvoltage protection from large industrial input voltages up to ±23 V while operating on a dual 5 V supply. Power dissipation on a single 5 V supply is only 1.5 mW.

The AD8476 works well with SAR, Σ-Δ, and pipeline converters. The high current output stage of the part allows it to drive the switched capacitor front-end circuits of many ADCs with minimal error.

Unlike many differential drivers on the market, the AD8476 is a high precision amplifier. With 200 μV maximum output offset, 39 nV/√Hz noise, and −102 dB THD + N at 10 kHz, the AD8476 pairs well with low power, high accuracy converters.

Considering its low power consumption and high precision, the slew-enhanced AD8476 has excellent speed, settling to 16-bit precision for 250 kSPS acquisition times.

The AD8476 is available in a space-saving 8-lead MSOP package. It is fully specified over the −40°C to +125°C temperature range.

The AD8476-EVALZ makes it easy for designers to obtain quick performance results on the 8 lead MSOP for their particular application circuit using the AD8476 low power, fully-differential G = 1 amplifier.


The board layout is flexible enough to allow for different circuit configurations, including options for single-ended or differential inputs, and space for output loading and filtering. Most resistors and capacitors use 0603 packages.

Excellent Part for High Quality Audio System Interconnections Balanced signal interconnections are essential when driving high quality audio amplifiers if their performance is not to be compromised by noise and crosstalk in the signal path resulting from ground currents and the poor performance of modern day screened connections when they are immersed in the radio frequency “soup” generated by wifi, and mobile phones etc.. One of the features that make the AD8476 an excellent choice for both driving and receiving balanced interconnections is in fact the lucid data sheet, which immediately points out the most important parameters which are specified, thankfully, in both the time and frequency domains. Highlights and warm feelings listed below. High quality audio amplifiers can have THD +N better than 94dB (0.002%). AD8476 typical is –90dB. If the audio amplifier had a signal to noise ratio of -20dB (albeit unusable) the AD8476 could reduce this by 90db min to –110db! The AD8476 has inverting and non-inverting outputs so that by using it to make the signal source truly differential instead just having hot and cold lines. This has been found to be necessary when using a PC as a signal source. When used with +/- 9 V supply rails the AD8476 can deliver up to 6VRMS to the input of the audio amplifier which is normally adequate for full power output. The low power supply current and high PSRR means that the AD8476 may be supplied via resistor-zener combinations from the high voltage supply rails thus minimising the bill of materials by avoiding extra power supplies. The performance of the units were tested with the AD8476 converting the audio amplifier to differential inputs driven via 5M long twin metal foil screened cable with the drain wire connected to the cold pin on the amplifier. Testing was done in the frequency domain and showed no measurable difference in THD. Previous measurements made on commercial optical digital links having non-differential inputs and outputs showed little or no reduction in system noise when compared to direct single ended connections made with coaxial cable. No doubt they would have performed better if they had been fitted with an AD8476 at the signal input.

no comparable product available from other manufacturers
I use the chip for transmitting analog signals via twisted pair lines in harsh EMI critical environment.
