Click-and-Pop
What is Click-and-Pop?
Definition
Click-and-pop, click-pop, or click/pop refers to the unwanted transient signals in the audio band that are reproduced by the headphone and/or speaker when the audio device driving it is either:
- powered up (power applied)
- powered down (power removed)
- brought out of shutdown (power applied previously)
- forced into shutdown (power still applied)
Click-Pop Suppressors
Click/pop reduction is a feature that eliminates unwanted transient noise signals during power-up, shutdown, connection, etc. Click-pop suppression devices control the ramping of the DC bias voltage on the output-coupling capacitors and the application of the audio signal to ensure that no audible transients are present.
What are click-pop suppressors used for?
Audio click-and-pop suppressors help eliminate clicks and pops for a variety of applications such as portable multimedia devices, headphones, and audio line outputs. They help eliminate clicks/pops for devices such as CODECs that have integrated headphone amplifiers but lack a clickless and/or popless startup or shutdown.
