Using a Watchdog Timekeeping RAM with a Microcontroller

Abstract

Nonvolatile Y2K-compliant real-time clocks (RTCs) with battery-backed SRAM and watchdog timer provide time and date functions to microcontrollers, such as the 8051 industry standard architecture. This application note highlights an example program featuring RTCs such as a DS1556 when used with a DS5000 microcontroller. A reference design schematic is included in this application note.
