Design for EMC
Abstract
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) must be a top priority from the beginning of the energy-meter design cycle. There are many routine EMC/electromagnetic interference (EMI) tests for metering devices, including conducted and radiated emissions, RF immunity, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and electrical fast transient (EFT) tests. The results of these tests depend on several factors, including PCB design and firmware code. This application note presents methods that enhance EMC without affecting the accuracy of the Teridian 71M6521, a residential energy-meter SoC. Following this article's recommendations helps to generate EMC-/EMI-compliant designs up front. Read full article.
