DTS-HD Master Audio is a lossless extension to the core DTS 5.1 surround format. It is used on Blu-Ray video discs to allow bit-to-bit accurate reproduction of the original studio master. The standard reproduces up to 7.1 audio channels at 24-bit resolution and 96kHz sampling rate. The nature of having the core and extension components allows the DTS-HD MA stream to be decode-able on non DTS-HD capable equipment where only the core 5.1 lossy component is decoded.
