The MAX14914, MAX14914A and MAX14914B are the family of high-side/push-pull drivers that operate as both an industrial digital output (DO) and an industrial digital input (DI). The MAX14914 family features full IEC 61131-2 compliance in both their DO and DI modes of operation. The high-side switch current is resistor settable from 135mA (min) to 1.3A (min). The high-side driver’s on-resistance is 120mΩ (typ) at 125°C ambient temperature. Optional push-pull operation allows driving of cables and fast discharge of load capacitance. The output voltage is monitored and indicated through the DOI_LVL pin for safety applications.

The MAX14914 family complies with Type 1, Type 2, or Type 3 input characteristics when configured for DI operation.

The MAX14914A is a low-DOI-leakage version of MAX14914, designed to work together with the MAX22000 Industrial Configurable Analog IO device. The MAX14914B features a high-side switch overcurrent indication.

Product Detail

The MAX14914 peripheral module provides the hardware to evaluate the MAX14914 high-side/push-pull driver that operates as both an industrial digital output (DO) and an industrial digital input (DI). Refer to the MAX14914 IC data sheet for detailed information regarding operation of the IC.

The module can be used in various ways; Maxim sells a low-cost USB2PMB1 adapter board that uses the Munich GUI software for communication through a USB cable. This is not included with this board. Alternatively, any microcontroller or FPGA with a 12-pin Pmod™-compatible connector can be used, but the user needs to adapt the signalling because this is not a standard SPI port. Another option for the user is to wire-wrap a temporary connection from their system to the pins on connector X1.

Applications

  • Configurable Digital Input/Output
  • Industrial Digital Outputs and Inputs Modules
  • Motor Control
  • Safety Systems

Product Detail

The MAX14914 evaluation kit (EV kit) provides a proven design to evaluate the MAX14914/MAX14914A/ MAX14914B, a configurable industrial digital output driver/digital input. The EV kit allows controlling of the MAX14914 as either a digital output (in either High-Side or Push-Pull mode) or digital input with simple jumper settings.

The EV kit must be powered from an external +24V power supply and can consume up to 1.3A (minimum) when fully loaded.

The MAX14914EVKIT comes with a MAX14914ATE+ installed in a 16-pin, 4x4mm TQFN-EP package.

MAX14914B overcurrent interrupt output is not directly supported. For the MAX14914B application refer to the MAX14914 IC data sheet.

Applications

  • Configurable Digital Input/Output
  • Industrial Digital Outputs and Inputs Modules
  • Motor Control
  • Safety Systems
