The DS1861 is a laser-driver control IC designed to reduce the production cost of fiber optics circuits by eliminating multiple temperature tests. It works with nearly all laser-driver ICs to provide automatic power control (APC) and automatic extinction ratio control (AERC), which improves the performance of the system over temperature and aging. It also has built-in monitoring capability to provide early fault detection, which can be configured to latch the IC into a shutdown condition. Settings programmed into the DS1861 are stored in password-protected EEPROM memory, which write-protects calibration data. Programming is accomplished through an I²C-compatible interface, which can also be used to read diagnostic information.
Applications
- Optical Transceivers
- Optical Transponders
