The ADL5350 is a high linearity, up-and-down converting mixer capable of operating over a broad input frequency range. It is well suited for demanding cellular base-station mixer designs that require high sensitivity and effective blocker immunity. Based on a GaAs pHEMT, single-ended mixer architecture, the ADL5350 provides excellent input linearity and low noise figure without the need for a high power level local oscillator (LO) drive.

In 850 MHz/900 MHz receive applications, the ADL5350 provides a typical conversion loss of only 6.8 dB. The integrated LO amplifier allows a low LO drive level, typically only 4 dBm for most applications. The input IP3 is typically greater than 25 dBm, with an input compression point of 19 dBm. The high input linearity of the ADL5350 makes the device an excellent mixer for communications systems that require high blocker immunity, such as GSM 850/900 and 800 MHz CDMA2000. At 2 GHz, a slightly greater supply current is required to obtain similar performance.

The single-ended broadband RF/IF port allows the device to be customized for a desired band of operation using simple external filter networks. The LO to RF isolation is based on the LO rejection of the RF port filter network. Greater isolation may be achieved by using higher order filter networks, as described in the Applications Information section of this data sheet.

The ADL5350 is fabricated on a GaAs pHEMT, high performance IC process. The ADL5350 is available in a 3 mm x 2 mm 8-lead LFCSP. It operates over a −40°C to +85°C temperature range. An evaluation board is also available.

    Product Details

    ADL5350-EVALZ is a fully populated, 4-layer, FR4-based evaluation board. The board has two halves: a low band board designated as Board A for 850 MHz down-converting evaluation; and a high band board designated as Board B for 1950 MHz down-converting evaluation. Each half of the board requires a 3 V/19 mA power supply for normal operation. The 3 V power supply should be connected to the clip leads VPOS-A, VPOS-B, GND-A and GND-B. All signal ports are populated with edge-mounted SMA connectors. RF-A, RF-B, LO-A, and LO-B are RF and LO input ports of each half. IF-A and IF-B are the output ports of each half. The evaluation board also provides the prototype area for implementation of example circuits shown on ADL5350 data sheet.

    Would be very interested in similar mixer with RF and LO up to 8GHz.

    Great mixer. Excellent performance. Easy drive. A dream. but. But I couldn't get it to meet insertion loss spec 100-600 MHz. I was careful with my matching etc.... Read datasheet carefully ! So I bought the eval board to assess what I was doing wrong....The eval board has two parts on it, matched for two frequencies . Still couldn't get it to meet insertion loss spec. (-11dB). Not sure what I was doing wrong. I double and triple checked my measurement setup. Still possible I had something wrong...... I went back to a MCL JMS-2H passive mixer. Works fine. Beware of the high blow-through of the mixer and harmonic mixing (which you might use to your advantage) . The simple design and very high IP3 performance is good but think about what you need. I would recommend for a mixer that was converting to a IF filter. that would remove all the other generated rubbish like harmonics, harmonic mixes etc etc . To this day, not sure why I couldn't meet IL spec but I have moved on.

    Very good mixer, better than before.
    The biggest help to approximate the impedance to 50 ohms High-bandwidth applications, it is very necessary
