Abstract

For fiber-optic transmitters, it is generally desirable to utilize the optical power generated by the laser diode as efficiently as possible. In practice, more than half of this power may be lost at the interface between a laser diode and a single-mode optical fiber. The purpose of this application note is to analyze butt coupling, one of the primary mechanisms that contributes to this loss of efficiency. Read full article.
