Frequency-to-Voltage Converters: AD650 Component Selection Calculator

A tool for calculating component values for V-to-F and F-to-V applications of the AD650.

Voltage-to-Frequency
VIN-MAX    FOUT-MAX  Hz
COS  F

RIN  KOhms    CINT  F
- Optional check on CINT -
VNOISE  V VS+  V

VIN
FOUT  Hz

Instructions: V-to-F
Enter the desired voltage and tuning range for your application together with COS (one-shot timing capacitor) in the fields provided. From these, values for RIN and CINT are calculated which may be afterwards manually adjusted : see tradeoffs between COS and RIN in tables 3a/b of the datasheet. CINT can be checked for noise saturation (Eq. 8 from datasheet) using the VNOISE and VS+ fields.

Once the application parameters are set, VIN and FOUT can be calculated from one another.

Frequency-to-Voltage
FIN-MAX  Hz   VOUT-MAX  V
FAVG  Hz

CINT  F   RINT  KOhms
COS  F

FIN  Hz
VOUT  V

Instructions: F-to-V (Calculations from AN-279)
In this mode, the primary design parameters are FIN-MAX (signal bandwidth), FAVG (mechanical bandwidth) and VOUT-MAX (output voltage for FIN-MAX). From these default component values are calculated for CINT, RINT and COS, which may be afterwards manually adjusted. After the circuit parameters have been entered, VOUT and FIN can be calculated from one another.
