RTC Compensation

Abstract

This application note describes methods for creating an accurate real-time clock (RTC) using the Teridian 71M6533, a third-generation, polyphase energy-meter system-on-chip (SoC). Similar techniques may be used with 71M6531, 71M6534, and other Teridian energy-meter ICs. There are two basic ways to make the RTC accurate: correct the RTC for all expected errors, or slave the RTC to the line frequency. With either method, the RTC runs at high adjusted accuracy during power failures. Read full article.
