My amplifier is getting hot. What should I check for?

Check for wrong power supplies, input overvoltage and latch-up, output loading, output short circuit, output oscillation due to insufficient phase margin or cap loading, excessive power dissipation, and lack of required heat sinking. Verify that none of the conditions stated in the absolute maximum ratings table in the device data sheet is being violated.
