AN-1251: ADAS1000 Cyclic Redundancy Code

This Application Note details the cyclic redundancy code (CRC) used in the ADAS1000 electrocardiogram front end. Error detection enables the receiver of a message to determine whether the message has been corrupted. To do this, the ADAS1000 constructs a code—called a checksum—that is a function of the message and appends it to the message. The CRC algorithm treats the message as an enormous polynomial, dividing it by another fixed polynomial using modulo-2 arithmetic for the coefficients. The remainder from this division is the checksum. Upon receipt of the message, the receiver can perform the same division and compare the remainder with the checksum. This note describes how the checksum is calculated.

This 4-page Application Note describes a circuit that uses the ADP5020 power management unit to provide the individual power supply rails required for the AD9272 octal LNA/VGA/AAF/ADC and crosspoint switch.

AN-1055: EMC Protection of the AD7746

The AD7746 capacitance-to-digital converter (CDC) measures the capacitance of a floating capacitive sensor directly, that is, the sensor connects directly to the AD7746 input pins. Electromagnetic interference distorts the electric field around the capacitive sensor, thus altering the capacitance measurement. External filtering can be used to protect the AD7746 from this electromagnetic interference, but including filters in the signal path degrades the conversion accuracy. This 20-page Application Note discusses the EMC performance that can be achieved with an external filter on the AD7746 pins as well as the affect of the filter on the accuracy of the AD7746.

AN-1053: AD5933 Evaluation Board Example Measurement

This 5-page Application Note details how to set up the evaluation board for the AD5933 impedance converter, and how to measure the impedance of the on-board 15 pF capacitor. The AD5933 data sheet provides additional information and should be consulted when using the evaluation board.

Powering an ECG Front End in Battery Powered Patient Monitoring Applications (CN0308)

This circuit is a highly integrated electrocardiogram (ECG) front end for use in battery powered patient monitoring applications. Used in a typical 5-lead (four limb and one precordial chest lead) ECG measurement system, it includes respiration and pace detection. This configuration is typical for portable telemetry ECG measurements or a minimum lead set from a line-powered bedside instrument. A typical ECG signal has 1‑mV amplitude when measured on the surface of the skin, thus requiring measurement sensitivity and noise in the microvolt level. The ultralow noise of the ADP151 linear regulator (9 μV rms from 10 Hz to 100 kHz), coupled with the power supply rejection of the ADAS1000, ensures low overall noise.
