The MAX86916 is an integrated optical sensor platform with applications in bio-sensing, proximity, and color. It includes internal LEDs, photodetectors, and low-noise electronics with ambient-light-rejection circuitry. The MAX86916 helps ease design-in effort to all mobile and wearable devices.

The MAX86916 operates on a 1.8V supply voltage, with a separate 5.5V power supply for the internal LEDs. Communication to and from the module is accomplished entirely through a standard I2C-compatible interface. The module can be shut down through software with nearzero standby current, allowing the power rails to remain powered at all times.

The MAX86916 evaluation system (EV system) allows for the quick evaluation of the MAX86916 optical module for applications at various sites on the body, particularly the finger. The MAX86916 has four LEDs (blue, green, red, and IR) and one photodiode. The MAX86916 supports a standard I2C interface.
