Welcome to the Analog Devices ADV601 Video Codec FTP Site.

There are TWO different ADV601 evaluation boards. The VideoLAB board
plugs into the PCI bus of a standard PC and comes with Windows95 software
and drivers. The VideoPIPE board is stand alone and uses a ADSP 2185
DSP for operation. We have posted everything we wrote (software, application
notes, schematics and PAL code) here for your use. As we make improvements
in things, we post the latest versions here.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

MAIN PAGE ADV601 (ftp.analog.com/pub/dsp/adv601)

ICM.ZIP

A software wavelet compression demonstration program. Download
it, and un zip it on a Win95 machine. Then execute the setup.exe
program to install it. From Win95 execute icmapp.exe. From "files"
open a .bmp image file. Then from "edit" compress it. Pick "Analog
Devices Wavelet Compression. You can adjust the compression ratio in
the "configure" box. The "window" menu "tile" selection will put
both images side by side for comparision.

*.BMP

Various bit map image files (*.bmp) are still images for
icmapp to compress.

ONTHEAIR.DOC (MS Word) or ONTHEAIR.PDF (Adobe Acrobat)

Application note. Circuit design with, and programming of, the
ADV601.

FAQ.DOC (MS Word) or FAQ.PDF (Adobe Acrobat)

Application Note. Frequently asked questions about the ADV601.

DSPBINWD.DOC (MS Word) or DSPBINWD.PDF

Application Note. Use a 2181 DSP to calculate the bin width settings
for the ADV601.

VIDPIPE.DOC (MS Word) or VIDPIPE.PDF (Adobe Acrobat)

Application Note. Theory of operation of the Videopipe ADV601
Evaluation board.

LABUSER.DOC (MS Word)

  User's manual for VideoLab Board

PIPEUSER.DOC (MS Word)

  User's manual for VideoPipe Board

BINWIDTH.ZIP

Application note concerning maintainance of a constant bit rate (or
compression ratio) using the ADV601. How to read statistics and
calculate binwidths. This is a zipped post script file,Unzip it and
print it on any laser printer.

BSMOD

Page or directory for the ADV601 compressed bit stream modifier
(editor) program. This program will do field doubling and selective filtering
of ADV601 compressed video in ".601" files. C source and executable.

SOFTWARE SUBPAGE OR SUBDIRECTORY VIDEO LAB SOFTWARE

SOFTWARE/601RPMAN

601 Record Playback MANager is a windows 95 low level driver (a
.vxd) It is the interrupt service routine to support the Videolab
evalutation board. C source and executable.

SOFTWARE/601CMAN

601 Compression MANager has the bin width calculator, and the
application program interface to 601rpman. This is a Windows 95
Dynamic Link Library (DLL). C source and executable

SOFTWARE/601TEST

601 Test Program is a hardware diagnostic program. It supports
inspect and change of ADV601 on chip registers, tests the fifo and
calls 601cman and 601rpman. Can also capture and play back video.
This is an ordinary DOS application program. C source and executable.

SOFTWARE/DSPBINWD

Source code for an ADSP2104 based bin width calculator. If your
hardware design includes a DSP you want this code. If you are doing
your bin width calculations in a host PC, you don't care about this
directory. ADSP21XX assembler source and executable.

SOFTWARE/2BOARD

Code to make a pair of video lab boards run in the same
motherboard. Drivers have special modifications and are INCOMPATABLE
with the standard Videolab board.

SOFTWARE/ICM

Installable Compression Manager compatable software video codec.
Does ADV601 video compression and decompression in software. Allows
any Video-for-Windows program to compress or decompress ADV601 video.
Permits editing of ADV601 video streams with Adobe Premiere. C
source and executable.

SOFTWARE/RAW2AVI.

Program to convert raw ADV601 captured video into
Video-for-Windows Audio Video Interactive (.avi) file format. Allows
ordinary Windows video programs to read and write ADV601 video
streams. Windows 95 Application program. C source and executable.

SOFTWARE/SOFTVCR

Program to capture and play back video using the Videolab
evaluation board. Uses VCR metaphor for user interface. Windows 95
application program. C source and executable.

SOFTWARE SUBPAGE OR SUBDIRECTORY VIDEOPIPE SOFTWARE

SOFTWARE/VIDPIPE

ADSP 2185 EPROM program shipped in the Videopipe Evaluation boards.

SOFTWARE/TRANLAYR

Serial Communications version of Vidpipe program. Outputs compressed
video over JP17 on videopipe board at 8 Mega Bit/sec using MPEG 2 transport
layer protocol.

SOFTWARE/RECVLAYR

Serial Communications. This program receives and displays the output of
the Tranlayr program (above). Use two Videopipe boards to make a poor man's
video conferencing setup, or remote surveillance system.
