Working with Digital Isolators in Motor Control Applications

This webcast will look at the considerations and challenges at key isolation nodes within the motor control signal chain. Choice of an isolation architecture can greatly affect the final system architecture complexity and cost. The isolation required by safety standards for motor drive electronics can be addressed in multiple ways. We will examine some of the tradeoffs involved in designing a system under IEC standards.

Nicola O'Byrne is a senior system applications engineer with the Motor and Power Control team (MPC) within the Industrial and Instrumentation segment in Analog Devices, supporting motor control and other precision industrial applications. Nicola has been with ADI for 18 years and managed the Precision ADC Applications team before assuming her current role. Nicola received a Bachelor of Engineering degree from University College Cork in 1996 whereupon she joined ADI. Nicola holds a number of patents and has presented at both ADI conferences and industry forums.

Mark Cantrell is a staff applications engineer for the iCoupler® Digital Isolator Group at Analog Devices, and he is a member of the IEC60079-11 maintenance team. His area of expertise is iCoupler digital isolation products, including isoPower® isolated power supply devices and communications bus devices such as I2C and USB isolators. He is also responsible for agency safety certifications for all iCoupler digital isolator products. Mark received his M.S. in physics from Indiana University.
