The increase in renewable distributed energy resources (DERs) creates a need for improved grid stability. A key component of grid stability is bi-directional electric vehicle charging. These EV charging reference designs include ADI's latest technology that enables bi-directional chargers. The AC EV charger reference design features ADI's new energy metering chipset, the ADE9113 and ADE9178, that are capable of class 0.5 (or Class C) accuracy. The design also includes ADI's secure payments platform based on the MAX32651 controller with near-field communications (NFC). Bi-directional on-board chargers (OBCs) such as this 11 kW OBC featuring ADI’s new Smart Switch product family, enable electric vehicles to contribute their energy to the grid and deliver grid stability and peak shaving when needed most. The 3.5 kW AC charging cordset features the ADE9113 isolated ADC for isolated accurate voltage and current monitoring.
