The AD7866 is a dual 12-bit, high speed, low power, successive-approximation ADC. The part operates from a single 2.7 V to 5.25 V power supply and features throughput rates up to 1 MSPS. The device contains two ADCs, each preceded by a low-noise, wide bandwidth track/hold amplifier, which can handle input frequencies in excess of 10 MHz. The analog input range for the part can be selected to be a 0 V to VREF range or a 2xVREF range with either straight binary or 2's complement output coding. The AD7866 has an on-chip +2.5 V reference, which can be overdriven if an external reference is preferred. Each on-board ADC can be supplied with a separate individual external reference. The AD7866 is available in a 20-lead thin shrink small outline (TSSOP) package. On-board components include an AD780, which is a pin programmable +2.5 V or +3 V ultra high precision bandgap reference, three AD713 quad op-amps, and a SN74LS04 inverter. Various link options are explained in detail on pages 2 and 3 of the EVAL-AD7866CB Technical Note (pdf, 631,262 bytes).
Interfacing to this board is through a 96-way connector. This 96-way connector is compatible with the evaluation board controller, which is available from Analog Devices. External sockets are provided for two VREF inputs; the optional, external, SCLK and CS inputs; the optional, external RANGE, A0 and VDRIVE inputs; the four AD7866 analog inputs; two bipolar analog inputs to the bias circuitry and the two Data out lines.

Included in the EVAL-AD7866CB evaluation board package is software for controlling and evaluating the performance of the AD7866 when it is operated with the Evaluation Board Controller. The EVAL-AD7866CB Demonstration/Evaluation Software runs under Windows 95, 98, 2000 & NT. The user interface on the PC is via a dedicated program written especially for the EVAL-AD7866CB.
