Integrated IF Quadrature Modulator with Synthesizer and RF Attenuator

For next generation broadband satellite applications looking to reduce size and bill of materials, the ADRF6750 offers designers a feature rich, single package IF transmit path solution for VSAT terminals. Packaged in an 8 mm × 8 mm LFCSP, the ADRF6750 integrates analog I/Q modulator, fractional-N PLL with VCO, and RF output attenuator—saving considerable board area over discrete implementations. The ADRF6750 features a 47 dB output attenuator with 1 dB step and a 10 Hz step synthesizer through a user selectable SPI/I2C® serial interface. In addition, the device provides high speed output disable and monitor output control.

Providing high integration often requires some relaxation in performance, but the ADRF6750 offers best-in-class output linearity, low output noise floor, precise output power accuracy, and flatness specified for operation from 950 MHz to 1575 MHz. The ADRF6750 provides the user with an option to use an external VCO for wider operational frequency range and lower phase noise applications. The ADRF6750 offers performance and integration of the IF signal path, with an advanced set of features and flexibility helping to reduce size, bill of materials, and system cost.

New Broadband Demodulator IC Offers Excellent Dynamic Range and Performance for Next Generation RF Architectures

ADI's new broadband quadrature demodulator, the ADL5380, enables ultrabroadband operation from 400 MHz to 6 GHz, making the device ideal for low intermediate frequency (IF) and RF applications within broadband wireless access systems, microwave radio link transmitters, cable modem termination systems, and cellular infrastructure.

The ADL5380 broadband demodulator has high linearity with excellent 2nd and 3rd order input intercept (IIP2 = 60 dBm, IIP3 = 31 dBm at 2500 MHz). The ADL5380 is a low noise device with a noise figure (NF) of 13.2 dB at 2500 MHz. The device also has excellent NF underblocking performance, making it suitable for the demanding infrastructure direct conversion system requirements.

Additionally, the ADL5380 offers a 500 MHz baseband bandwidth, enabling demodulation of the widest of input signal bandwidths. The device has excellent demodulation accuracy with 0.25 dB amplitude and 0.5° phase accuracy. These performance attributes enable the ADL5380 to be used in higher order demodulation applications. The baseband output stage delivers a conversion gain of approximately 4.3 dB, thereby minimizing the need for auxiliary output amplifiers. Evaluation boards are available to allow users to configure and test the device.
