RS -232 Transceivers Protect Your Communications Networks and Data from Noisy Environments and Transient Power Spikes

The RS-232 bus standard is one of the most widely used physical layer bus designs in industrial and instrumentation diagnostic port applications. To improve system reliability within a noisy environment and protect against voltage spikes and ground loops, isolation is often required between the RS-232 cable network and the systems connected to it. The ADM3251E transceiver incorporates ADI's iCoupler and isoPower® isolation technologies and is the first surface-mount RS-232 transceiver to feature full isolation of both the data and power lines. With a 2.5 kV isolation rating, the new RS-232 transceiver complies with industry-standard isolation regulations (UL1577 and DIN VDE 0884-10), ensuring it will meet the robustness levels required in noisy operating environments such as isolated RS-232 diagnostic data ports in industrial automation and control applications. World's First Signal and Power Isolated RS-485/RS-422 Transceiver in an SMT Package

The ADM2587E/ADM2582E transceivers are the first surface-mount RS-485/RS-422 transceivers to feature full isolation of both the data and power lines and incorporate ADI's well-known iCoupler and isoPower® isolation technologies. With a 2.5 kV isolation rating, the new RS-485/RS-422 transceivers comply with industry-standard isolation regulations, including UL1577 and DIN VDE 0884-10, ensuring they will meet the robust levels required in applications such as programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems, motor control, building control systems, industrial fieldbuses (Modbus, BACNet Interbus, etc.), and telecom equipment.

Analog Devices' new ADM2587E (RS-485) and ADM2582E (RS-422) transceivers are the first surface-mount (SMT) transceivers to feature a line driver, line receiver, oscillator, rectifier, regulator, and transformers on a single chip that isolates both the data and power lines. The transceiver's SMT package improves manufacturability by allowing system OEMs to mount the device using fully automated production tools, reducing manufacturing steps and improving mechanical performance. In addition, the small footprint frees up circuit board space for other system functions. This highly integrated device provides a robust communications interface with isolated power for use in harsh industrial and instrumentation environments.
